So I have windows 8 on this HDD.

is there a way I can transfer it to my SSD? could I not go through the files and copy and paste them to a usb?

if there is not a way. can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get wifi on Linux Ubuntu?

Thanks

Shrink your Windows partition down to or smaller than the size of the SSD partition and clone to the SSD. You may need to run a startup repair to fix the boot record, so have a bootable Windows 8 install disk/drive on hand.

There are plenty of drive cloning software options. This will work: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

What model computer/motherboard or NIC do you have?

I literally had to migrate my OS from a HDD to SSD earlier this afternoon and used EaseUS Partition Master.
Quick and simple and is good for just about any kind of HDD thing you need to do, whether it being merging, creating, resizing partitions etc., changing drive letters, restoring deleted partitions or any other kind of issue that you may have in the future.
