I find that MP4s work on most TV's (JVC's being the mega pain in the arse exception)
Failing that, MPEG.
Try a small sample clip in each format

The most common codecs and containers that TVs recognize is:

Container: MP4
Video Codec: H.264 (x264/MPEG-4 AVC)
Audio Codec: AAC

If the content you have is already using any of them codecs but is in a different container i.e MKV then you can use a program to Mux the content to MP4 without spending hours re-encoding.

If you need to find out what codecs the content is using then you can download and use MediaInfo from [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

If you need to Mux the content to MP4 then you can use the program XMedia Recode which you can download from [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

If you need help, feel free to PM me.
