So a bunch of shit on my laptop going haywire randomly due to comctl32.dll
Issue started about a couple weeks ago, no idea what caused it.
I've checked the event viewer and all errors pointed to comctl32.dll
atm i'm running sfc /scannow and I'll edit the post in a bit once it's done

this is the error I get

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_none_fa396087175ac9ac\COMCTL32.dll

EDIT:

wasn't able to finish the sfc scan, came up with this error.

2014-11-18 00:29:25, Error                 CSI    000001b3@2014/11/17:14:29:25.361 (F) d:\win7sp1_gdr\base\wcp\sil\merged\ntu\ntsystem.cpp(2155): Error STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST originated in function Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectFileSystemProvider::SysReadFile expression: (null)
[gle=0x80004005]
2014-11-18 00:29:27, Error                 CSI    000001b4 (F) STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST #4027354# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::CFile_IRtlFileTearoff::ReadFile(Flags = 3, Buffer = {l:0 ml:65536 b:}, Offset = 917504 (0x00000000000e0000), Disposition = 0)[gle=0xd0000010]

seems to be an error with ntsystem.cpp, what should I do
chkdsk d?

I'd whack in the install disc for that version of windows the replace the problematic files with fresh ones off of the disc. You can find ways of copying to protected directories using command prompt online.

currently the install disc isn't an option.

Looks like your hard drive is having some issues. I have seen this issue before.

Could you try the following:

1. Go into Safe Mode.
2. Run chkdsk /f /r from the command prompt
3. Reboot the laptop
4. Run sfc /scannow again
