My dad and I are opening up a saltwater fish and coral store and have 100s of items in stock. We have ways of selling all the dry goods and supplies pretty easily; however, for coral, there's hundreds of types, sizes, colors, ect. So we need a way to show customers the price of each item easily. We were thinking have either ipads or microsoft tablets in the store that people can use that will have a program open. That program or even website, will need to have a category for each fish tank, once you're into the tank, it needs to have a picture of each coral, the name/type, and price. There would be like 5 tanks, with 500 pieces of coral in total (I can add each item individually myself). So how hard would that be? would it be easier in a website form, maybe eventually adding a add to cart option so when they go to check out, i know the prices exactly. Give me your thoughts, thanks guys.

The cost really depends on who you want that to develop for you. If you want it done by professionals then it is going to cost a few thousand dollars easy. But, by the sound of it, you might be able to just implement it yourself. If it is a website that can only be accessed while inside your store then you can set up an intranet and simply install some open-source catalog that people can browse through.
