I jail broke my phone back when ios 7 just came out, and now that I want to update I can't figure out how.. When I go to general in the settings and try to update, it just loads and loads and nothing comes up.. When I connect my phone to the computer and go to iTunes, my device doesn't come up to say sync or anything... It's like it can't even see that my phones plugged in. Is there any programs or anything else I can do to update?

I already tried restoring through the settings and it just gets stuck loading! I will give rep and can figure out something else to give if somebody helps me update my phone

you will have to restore your iphone, so the jailbreak is gone then you will be able to.

Restore your phone first on iTunes, then update to iOS 8.

When your phone is jailbroken the developers of the jailbreak tool block over the air updates so that people do not brick their phones trying to update it that way. All you have to do is plug it up to your computer and update it through iTunes instead.

Put your iPhone into DFU mode. Recovery mode may work also.

Text Tutorials:
DFU Mode

Plug your device into your computer

Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off

Hold the power button for 3 seconds

Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds

Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode. Your screen should be black.

If you get stuck in DFU mode and need to get out, just hold the power button and home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
