Hey everyone I just want to get some additional help with this. I am starting my own PC Repair Shop and I have already compared prices with local places and done comparison shopping so to speak but I was just wanting some extra feedback. If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

Info about me
I have been working with computers for the last 5, almost 6 years, currently enrolled in college for a CIT degree in Network Administration as well as have an IC3 and an A+ certification. A lot of local shops in my area are extremely pricey and I feel like people shouldn't have to pay some outrageous total for simple tasks. What I have done is compared the 3 shops in my area and made my own list. For the prices I added all 3 prices for each item and divided by 3 to get an average of all of them and determined what I should charge based on that average. A lot of the work is simple stuff but they exploit that with high prices. My pricing is rather scattered but I used previous experience with situations to determine what should be charged instead of going by an hourly rate, which I feel is more reasonable than giving a price per hour.

The results

My Shop Other Shops
Diagnostic Fee - $20 $50
Virus Removal - $80 $150
System Tune-up - $30 $60
Software Install(1-3) - $15/each $30/each

Data Backup(Large >25GB) - $100 $200
Data Backup(Small <25GB) - $40 $130
Data Recovery - $150 $300
Data Recovery Attempt - $80 $130
System Upgrades - $40/each $75/each
OS Repair/Restore - $60 $125
Network Configuration - $25/hr $65/hr
Network Install/Repair - $35/hr $80/hr

People actually pay to install stuff? thats pretty sad
well your prices are good but the problem is buying the store paying the bills paying for advertisements
because if you dont get known then bestbuy and walmart are just going to jack your customers

Which is probably why the other shops have such higher prices.

Prices seem reasonable, but is that going to cover costs of the store etc?

Where you from may i ask?

"People actually pay to install stuff? thats pretty sad"

It is actually really common, people without much PC Knowledge actually pay for many things

What I am considering doing just to start off is work from my home. I have a whole garage that I can use as the shop with plenty of shelf space, a work bench and different things like that. Directly down town so there won't be an issue with going to pick up a rig from someone or have them drop it off. I know it won't be a long term thing, and that I eventually will need to buy some sort of location but as of right now I could manage fine. I live in Kentucky, a very rural county specifically, with not much tech support.

And as PhoenixMods stated, that is why other shops have such high prices. Nobody else can do it so they are willing to pay anyone for the service. As far as branding and advertisement I have gotten business cards and handed out, left at local stores and gas stations as well as hung flyers around town. Gotten a few calls already but I am still hesitant on pulling the trigger to start everything up.

Crazy to think people actually pay that much... These are all so simple tasks but when people don't know what to do they will pay whatever it takes to get it working again. The beauty of the IT world.

^^^ That is the main reason I hate "price per hour" Anyone that starts to work on a computer for lets say, $25/hr, regardless of the task will take their sweet time and rack up the price. I had a customer before willing to pay me $50/hr just to install a printer on his computer, needless to say I refused that. It really aggravates me when someone has high price points for simple 5 minute jobs.

I look at it like this: Reasonable pricing + Better Customer Support = Frequent Customers
