What are you struggling with? you need to be more specific. Im terms of hosting a server (so your friends can join), the best & cheapest way is to portforward and host off of your personal router, I wouldn't recommend this if you had plans to advertise and host for other people (I hosted this way in 2008, pre VPS era and I used to get DDoS'ed all the time), the other option is hosting it by 'lan' meaning that it would only be accessible if they were connected to your internet (at your house basically) on '127.0.0.1' and the last option is a hosted/dedicated virtual private server 'VPS' which is what I use, but this option costs money.
Hope this helped, it might be a bit rough cause I typed this on my iPhone haha.

I need help getting the port open and correctly port forwarded where I can run a simple PI base. Im not trying to set up the next big RSPS just a server that can hold maybe a max of 10 players without the use Hamachi.

Hamachi is a joke, just Google your router model and how to port forward it there's tons of tutorials. The hardest part is getting your password unless its nothing or pass, password, or admin for your router.
