First decide what you want your character to be, do you want them to be a strong warrior, a sneaky thief, or a majestic mage? Or perhaps you want to spice it up by mixing things up, being a mystical warrior, a magickal thief, or some such. Decide what kind of weapons you will use, what skills you want to be used most. Is your character going to focus on two-handed weapons? Archery? Maybe magic? Or one handed and magic? What I tend to do for character creation is work out the style of play for the character, before deciding what race. Once I have a "class" I then proceed to figure out what race best suits it. Your a warrior? You'd be best off with something like Orc, Imperial, Nord or Redguard. Or perhaps your a thief? You'd be best off as a Khajiit, Argonian, Bosmer. A mage? Dunmer, Altmer, Breton.
