1. Always have a positive attitude

a. This is probably the most important tip I could ever give to anyone, no matter how mean and rude your teammates are always, and I mean always try your hardest to keep your mind on the game and the game only. Ignore them if they personally attack you and turn the other cheek, because they will be the ones thanking you if you save their lives and secure a kill or an objective for the team. Riot says that you win 80% more of games if you are non toxic, I would say its more like 60% or so but seeing as the highest champion win rate in the game is 55.75% a 60% win rate is extremely high.

2. TRY and pick a champion and role that you play regularly
a. If you feel like you are stronger at a certain position try and get that role. But do not rely on only getting mid/ top or whatever role you play. Try your best to be able to play at least 2 champions in each role. That being said if you get your role play your best champion. Counters to champions only really matter when people are evenly strong opponents (high diamond, challenger). So do not pick Diana into Katarina if you have never played Diana a day in your life just because you expect to win because she counters her. Play your best champion because if you truly are better than the person you are playing against than you should have no problem winning your lane.

3. Keep timers on neutral objectives

a. Objectives truly do win games. Make sure you always know when your major buffs are going to respawn as well as when dragon and baron will repawn. A mid laner with blue buff almost has unlimited mana and a TON of CDR (cool down reduction). For Ziggs (my main), this means that I can throw my bouncing bomb every 2 seconds and never go below half mana. Red Buff is essential for ganking as it slows and burns the opponent, If an enemy jungle or ADC gets your red it can mean they can roam up and basically get any kill that they want. Dragon gives a ton of global gold to your team and as 90% of the time gold wins games your ultimate goal is the have the most gold. Dragon gives exactly 125G to each player which comes out to over 600 gold every 6 minutes. Lastly Baron, he is great if you have just aced a team or see that there are 2 or more enemies in bot lane. Baron can both win and lose games, you get 300G per person as well as a major regeneration buff, but it is a horrible idea to try and start baron with five members up while they are bee-lining to the baron pit to fight. Choose wisely when forcing baron. i. Baron respawns every 7 minutes ii. Dragon Spawns every 6 minutes iii. Buffs spawn every 5 minutes


4. Communicate well with teammates

a. Communication wins games. Period. This can be through team chat, voice chat or my favorite, Pings. The smart ping system is probably the best feature that Riot has put into the game as it allows people to communicate fast and still allows to understand what is
happening. Use the smart ping system to your advantage, if your lane goes missing IMMEDIATELY ping that they are missing. Its always better to be safe than sorry later. If you have skype or Ventrilo/teamspeak link it in champion select as you will have an enormous advantage over the enemy team who has to type out everything. Do not be rude and answer people if they ask a question. Communication is a key factor in winning.

5. Keep up your farm but know when to fight

a. Farming is the best way to get fed as you can always rely on it unlike kills which are variable. For every one kill it is worth around 12-15 farm. This means even if your lane partner gets one kill on you and just backs afterwords you can come back if you farm 15 or so minions. Never neglect farming, that being said do not leave a teamfight to farm. Learn when to fight and when to farm, if your team is in a standoff 4v5 mid you should be there with them. This is a common mistake in low elo which causes you to lose team fights and lose towers and eventually the nexus. TIP: Before jumping into soloque for the day go into a custom game and practice farming 100 minions then leave. Record the time it takes, every day do this and you should see your farm improve!

6. NEVER give up

a. Even if you are down 20 kills and 4 turrets do not give up. Instead think about what you can do as a team to get back into the game. This is an acceptable time to try and force baron. If you feel like your back is against the wall then feel free to force a baron fight and try and get back into the game. Remember that one teamfight win will not get you back even but it is a good sign, after you get a kill take an objective, it can be as big as baron or as small as wolf camp, but it will slowly get you back into the game. Try and fight under towers to give you a 6v5 edge. Play smart and never give up.

7. Vision wins games

a. This is straight forward, buy wards. Place them in places where you know enemies will be hiding such as the brush behind baron or the tri bush in bot lane. Always have all objectives warded. Vision is the difference in picking someone off in the jungle or getting picked off in the jungle, although they are expensive at 75g per, always try and buy at least one every back. They will win you the game. Do not only rely on the support to ward as it is not their only job, they also have to get items, if everyone buys one every back than you should always have coverage.

8. It is okay to get carried

a. This is a semi hidden secret in LoL. Most people feel like they need to do everything themselves and when they are 0-2 in a lane than the game is over. This is false, although you are 0-2 do not keep feeding, it will only make the situation worse for your team, just farm neutral camps, farm your lane and play safe. Let the jungler come and help you under your own tower. Although you are 0-2 in lane your other lanes could be up 50 or so farm. Its a team game and you cannot rely on only yourself to win the game. Trust your team to help you when you are down.

9. Duo Queing does not guarantee a win

a. Simple, if you duo que do not expect to just win the game. Most duo quers get a god complex in bottom lane and think they can win the game themselves. This is not the instance, you still have to outplay your opponent and play smart. Just because you are a duo que and probably are on skype, it does not mean you can leave your team out to dry. Do not be rude to people not in your skype call as it just makes for bad team moral, also I would not even acknowledge that you are a duo que because if you do not perform well people will say worst duo que. Just play like its a solo que game.

10. Do not play if in a bad mood/ Stop after two consecutive losses

a. This last tip is my own personal rule. If you lose two games in a row take a break. Give your head a rest and go for a walk, grab some food, or something else not computer related. It will give your head time to forget the last two games and refresh your body and mind to allow for a whole new start to the day. If you consistently play in a bad mood or with your emotions you will find you lose more games, which will cause more agitation and anger. It is okay to lose, but take a break after you do so. A positive attitude is key in winning and keeping team moral up. First blood to the other team is not the end of the game but raging is.
