I have an old Compaq Presario Model: SR5710Y. When I plug the VGA into my PC and screen nothing shows up and I know the monitor works. When I plug the HDMI in to the PC and my TV still nothing appears. I really have no idea why this is happening if anyone can tell me why and a possible solution I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

Go to screen resolution and see if the monitor shows up at all, and if it does make sure it's not disabled.

I am not trying to be sarcastic but how would I go to screen resolution on the monitor if I cannot see the screen when I the PC in. I have plugged my school laptop into the monitor so I know it works. I have reset the screen resolution to factory settings and it auto adjusts to the computer when you plug it in.

Try restarting your PC and trying again, sometimes that works

My bad, I was assuming that you had a laptop and the integrated monitor worked. Now that I know you have a desktop, make sure there isn't a graphics card. If you've installed a graphics card it disables the inputs integrated into the motherboard.
