So my friend has a server and we want to put a modpack but not sure how to do it.
Do i have to contact the company who host the server to install the modpack?

You should be able to download the server file to your own PC, upload this via FTP to your server host. Use the <modpackname>.jar to launch from.
Assuming you use a CP like Multicraft, just type in the modpackname.jar and it SHOULD load that modpack and the necessary files. If it doesn't, upload the entirety of the files from your PC to the server host root directory.
