Okay so i signed into PSN and asked my friend to invite me to his session on GTA. But then he said i was appearing offline so he could not invite me. I could invite him however when he was trying to join he got " unable to join game session." i have asked all my friends if i appear online and they said im offline. I have also tried while playing different games and i still appear offline? Any ideas ?

You might have your settings to permanently appear offline?

There isnt any offline setting on ps3

Sign out then sign back in, that should fix the problem

There may be server problems with PSN or GTA V, Or you or your friend may have a bad connnection.
