A light year is the distance light travels in a year, so the time taken is the same as a year on earth (relative to the earth). But relative to the light itself, the time taken is zero; because at the speed of light, time diminishes to zero.
So to us on earth, as we watched a beam of light travel one light year, it would seem to take one year; but if we were traveling on that light beam, it would seem to take no time at all.

Why do that when you can just warp, teleport, or go through some type of wormhole? Much more faster and be there in an instant. Better than spending 40 years of my life traveling through space to somewhere you don't even know your going to. Also this isn't a conspiracy, thought I'd let everyone that already knows, know. lol

This topic is becoming more of a science lesson then a conspiracy.

The faster you travel, the slower in time you go. Those in the shuttle who are traveling so fast may take ten years, but to those on earth, it would seem like less time. Proven.
And those in the shuttle would come back younger if a long time passed by.
