What a rubbish question, it all depends on what you want out of a laptop ie. do you want a laptop for it portability or power? what are you going to use it for? How good does the battery life have to be?

your question is like saying, buy me a book... without specifying anything.

You said it, man.

OP, I could only recommend you an Ultrabook, specifically this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . You can decide between the 2nd and 3rd model, but I would opt for the 2nd model ($659.12) because if you're using it for things like school and note taking, you don't need discrete graphics or an i7, plus you should have longer battery life and it'll be plenty fast with the 128GB SSD. You could opt for the 3rd model ($791.12), but it comes with a mobile i7 and discrete graphics solution, but most importantly, no SSD, which I believe is crucial in a laptop.

Ultra-books, although light. aren't that powerful for the price. that's why it need to specify what your looking for.
I personally got a Lenovo z570 (2 years ago now i think) it was around $870. Specs-
6gb ram
750gb HDD
GT520M 1GB (graphics card is important if you want to do any real video editing or gaming)
i5-2410M dual core processor.
This laptop is big but packs a punch and has enough batter for what i needed.
I recently advised my Sister on getting a Lenovo z500 (which she now has). She wanted portability but power. She wanted a ultrabook but i knew she would be disappointed with the power and forever moaning it wouldn't play sims 3 (lacking power/dvd slot). so i found a midway option laptop is quite thin and powerful with a back-lit keyboard. this was more recent, she paid about the same price as mine (but obviously it was more powerful as it's 2 years on).

Lenovo is great value for money if you know where to look and what models to buy (basically, shop around). GO LENOVO!
