Almost everything is new for them. Different special teams unit, different offense, different defense.

There main RB hasn't even scored a TD this season but has fumbled constantly. Eli Manning isn't playing at an elite level. Defense is injured and their DBs are much different.

But the Giants are always looming around as a .500 team. They're a team that will not perform consistent but will perform in big games.

Pfft. Eli Manning has always sucked. The coach keeps recruiting newbies so they get worse by the year. Giants are done for the season.

The Quarterback: Eli Manning is the face of the franchise, and after two championships and two Super Bowl MVP awards, it's fair to expect a lot more from him. Through three games, he's thrown eight interceptions and his passer rating is 70.5, 12 points below his career average. At various points this season, he's looked lost. On Sunday, he finished 12-of-23 for 119 yards. In the first half, Manning had only one passing yard and the Giants had just 18 total yards. The offensive line and lack of a running game didn't help, but you can't excuse Manning's 49.0 passer rating. Manning was unable to rally the troops on Sunday. He'll need to do just that if the Giants have any chance this year.

The Offensive Line: Did the Giants even put a line out there on Sunday? The Panthers came after Manning in the first half, and the Giants line had no response. Manning was sacked seven times, with five coming in the first quarter, for a total loss of 45 yards. The Giants only ran for 60 yards. There was also the big holding penalty assessed to Will Beatty on David Wilson's touchdown run in the second quarter. Already dealing with injuries, a lack of experience, and poor play, the Giants' line now has injuries to center David Baas and guard Chris Snee to worry about. The offensive line was a question mark heading into the season, and after three games it might be the team's biggest concern.

The Running Game: After Week 1, the focus was on Wilson learning to hold on to the football. He did that on Sunday, but still only ran for 39 yards on 11 carries. Brandon Jacobs and Da'Rel Scott see limited action so Wilson will have to produce more. His touchdown run in the second quarter came back because of the holding penalty, but other than that, Wilson didn't do much. He now has just 75 yards rushing in three games. The Giants only had 23 yards on the ground in Week 2 and just 50 in Week 1. They're ranked last in the league in rushing yards per game (44.3). I know that this has become a passing league, but you still need to have an effective running game. The Giants, a team historically built on the running game, know that better than anyone else.

The Special Teams: There's a reason why Tom Coughlin mentioned this as a key play in the game. Down 7-0 early in the second quarter, Josh Brown missed a field goal from 38 yards out. It was deflating. It came after an interception by Aaron Ross, one of the few good plays the defense turned in. Needless to say, with the limited opportunities the Giants had, they needed three points in that spot. This is one aspect of the team that the Giants cannot afford to have to worry about. It was Brown's first miss of the season so let's not sound the alarm bells just yet. It just happened to come in a big spot. Yes, even when you lose by 38, there are still big spots to look back on.
The Defense: Once the Carolina offense got going, they totally dominated the Giants' defense. The Panthers scored right before halftime, then scored on their first three drives of the second half to blow the game open. Ross got burned twice for touchdowns as Cam Newton had his way with the Giants' defense, throwing for 223 yards and one touchdown. The Giants made DeAngelo Williams look like a star. Williams ran for 120 yards, his best game of the season, as the Giants' defense was unable to even contain him. Blame goes to everyone here, and now defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, the savior a few years back, is on the hot seat.
Come to think of it, there are plenty of hot seats to go around.
