Looks like more of a statement to the fans than a buy to strengthen the team... Don't get me wrong, Ozil is quality

But midfield is their strongest area.

A lot of defenders are injured and they look a striker short

Well it looks like Giroud is really inform and why should they make the attackers better?
And, yeah their defence is bad, but the CM is leading to everyone.

Last season we had one of the best defensive records in the league. So, we didn't necessarily need to strengthen the defence. Also, Giroud is on-form at the moment so there wasn't any need to bring in a striker that could disrupt it.

Having said all that, having Ozil in any team would strengthen it. Even if we already have one of the best midfield in the league.

People keep saying our defence is bad when last season we had a goal difference of +35 with only 37 conceded meaning we had the second best defensive record the only team that had better was Man City so again please tell me how our defence is so bad? I agree we are a bit short at the back and could of done with signing a defender but we do not have a bad defence, everyone is going off of the fact we lost to Villa in the opening game......do teams not have off days? And remember we had a player sent off.

That's the difference between us and the rest of the top teams in the Premier League. The media hates us for some reason. I don't see any 'Man United are in crisis' articles even though they have less points than us over three games? It's stupid.

Also, I have to agree. People keep complaining that our defence is weak and poor, but as you said, we have one of the best defensive records in the league. We maybe lack depth, but we certainly have great cover. Sagna can cover the CB spot very well if need be, and Jenko is more than capable of playing RB. We have to very good and underrated LB's to cover eachother, and we have a solid center back pairing. The one thing that worries me though, is Arsene Wenger going to put Vermaelen straight back into the team? It could disrupt our solidity, but then again when Vermaelen on form, he's arguably the best defender in the league.

I wouldn't say your defense is bad because of the number of goals you concede. Rather the manner in which you concede them. Particularly against us (Chelsea) last season, your defense was clueless to set pieces. I think you need a new centre back of real quality to give some competition to the current ones. Someone who can dictate your defense a little. Because when you concede quite simple to defend goals, it makes a team that isn't that bad be seen in a negative light

When Vermaelen isn't injured, and on-form he's one of the best in the league. The only reason why he didn't shine last year was because he played out of position in most games. That's why we bought Monreal in January, because Gibbs was injured and we were having to use big Verm at LB.

It was a very good signing for Arsenal! Just what they needed, hopefully they get a good finishing position this season. They could of done with a few more signings though...
