So really all I want from you guys is suggestions on what I should upgrade next and whether I actually should upgrade or not.

I know it's not the BEST build but, it's decent.

Now, many of you may say you don't really need to upgrade just yet, maybe wait a little longer.

However, for some reason, recently I've been experiencing lag when playing games e.g BF3. GTA IV. It's gotten to points where in BF3 I've had to lower my settings down to medium when I should be playing on ultra!

I've checked my CPU temps and GPU and they seem to be fine default and whilst playing games.

Whilst playing BF3 I only get around 60 degrees which is pretty good.

So generally I'm not sure what the problem is!

PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Vortex Plus 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI 760GM-E51 Micro ATX AM3 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
GPU: Radeon 7950 3GB
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply

Thanks in advance!

Have you made sure you are on the latest drivers for your gpu as you should be able to play those games on at least high. Make sure you have all the latest drivers and play the games again. I am not too sure why you would be experiencing lag on high.

install the beta drivers if possible, as AMD beta ones usually help FPS in games.

Also, disable any background programs that use RAM or CPU usage. The 965 BE is a good CPU, but it lacks super powers, due to the price. that's the only thing i can think of, your CPU is holding it back. when i changed from my APU it gained a lot of FPS in Crysis 3 and BF3, with my 6300.

BF3 multiplayer is much more CPU-intensive than BF3 singleplayer. Play a few missions on singleplayer to see that this is true. I can't suggest overclocking because your motherboard is no good for that, but it would significantly improve performance.

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU next, just not sure what to.

I'm positive not to Intel due to having to get a new motherboard.

EDIT:
Been searching and the 6300 seems to be really good and not too overpriced either, may think of getting that!

The 6300 is a great CPU for the price. I get no lag on BF3 with mine on medium to high settings, running it alongside a GTS 450.
