Yeah, there's Multi Theft Auto and SAMP. I would go with MTA. As it's more a new engine for san andreas than just a multiplayer mod. i'll link you to both the sites so you can make your own decision.

In my opinion MTA is better, but SAMP has it's benefits too.

Planetside 2 is on steam yes, I'd definitely recommend at least trying it.

Yeah, wait until standalone comes along.

Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend the following games:

Bioshock Infinite: This game is awesome, the story being too good. Oh yeah, and it features a female character that you'll fall in love with.
Fallout 3: If there's any Fallout game that you want to play, it's this one. This game is just so amazing, better than Skyrim or any other RPG. Literally the BEST game I've ever played.
Skyrim: It's alright, pretty good for mods.
Minecraft: Actually forget that, you'd have to of got it a year or two ago.

Buy Mount & Blade: Warband

Look it up on steam, there might be an extra download for multiplayer I'm not sure. I bought it when that christmas sale was on and it's amazing!
