I think trance has to be one of the best genre's ever, but it's pretty much extinct now... It was popular from the late 80's to about 1999, in that time was the whole rave era.
Here's an example of a really good trance song composed by Nostrum in 1996, and btw I uploaded it myself since the other videos on youtube aren't in great quality:

I usually listen to Nostrum or The Art of Trance, and some other similar artists I like are FSOL, the prodigy, 808 state, the orb, etc...
