Is it possibly to buy say a 1tb or 500gb external hard drive format it to fat32 plug it into your jtag and start saving stuff to it? Does it work that way or do you need to load other stuffon it to make it comparable with the jtag?

Yes, you can hook up an external HDD to a jtag/RGH. I recommend buying a 2.5in HDD and putting it in as a primary HDD.

Yep, format it with fat32 and plug it into your RGH. You will be able to save games on it.

This might be a silly question but I'm new to this. If I put in the 1tb and took out the 20 gig I have the dis. With the files on it but would I have to re flash the disc drive?

The disc drive will remained flashed unless you re flash it with stock FW.
