Hey guys. I'm currently using a iPhone 4s on 5.1.1 untethered and I want to update to ios 6 but I need to know if I can update via wifi or if I have to use a computer.

Yu can update via wi-if or 3G go to settings and check for a new update and it should come up

Yeah but will it effect the phone in any way?
