I know that it is highly recommended that you have two separate Hard Drives if you wish to record PC gameplay with Fraps/Dxtory = One for the Actual Games, and one for the recordings. I currently only have one, but I am planning on getting another soon.

So my question is: Can the hard drive be damaged if you are recording and playing off of the same one? I read something about it reading and writing data at the same time, which can be very harmful to it. I just want to know, because I don't really want to wait, but I don't want to have to re-install all my Games and OS again if something were to happen.

Playing off of and recording to the same hard drive won't damage the drive. Heck, I pulled it off on a 5900 RPM hard drive, it wasn't the best but it worked until I got a second drive.
Still it is recommended to record to another one. Better performance etc.

Oh alright thanks! So I won't have to worry about anything being corrupted or it being damaged? Sounds good to me! I should be getting the second Hard drive in about a week or two.

Yeah you will get the best results recording to another HDD but it won't damage it at all. I used to record Potral using fraps on a laptop with 1 HDD!
