Head over to shortfuse.org and download superoneclick 2.33.

On you handset go to settings-application-development "enable USB debugging"

Plug in phone an hit root.

NOTE: I am in no way responsible for damage you do to your device when rooted, buy rooting it you accept this.

Sticky is rather outdated. And yes, you keep everything (titanium backup allows you to backup and then restore lost data
