Go for a intel i5 2500k, not too pricey and is pretty much the same as the i7 2600k apart from hyperthreading.. If you're thinking about AMD.. go for the phenom II, DONT go for the bulldozer, they may sound amazingly cheap for a 4-6-8core but they're TERRIBLE for gaming.
In my opinion it would be intel, but if your building a gaming computer, don't spend 70 more for an i7 2600k, its the exact same as the i5 2500k apart from hyperthreading.

Intel sh*ts all over AMD. However, I'm using a FX Bulldozer myself and it will get the job done. I'd recommend I5 2500K if your looking for a cheap/effective CPU.

Intel if your doing video editing and gaming
AMD if your just doing gaming and minor video editing!

And on the note of processors, is the Ivybridge out yet + are they worth getting? or stick to a 2500k?

Not worth upgrading to a Ivybridge, if your on a 2500k but if you were on an I3 or an AMD build and were changing to Intel, then yeah it would be worth it.
