im assuming you mean a backwards compatible ps3 (also known as the "phat" or "fat" ps3) or a slim ps3,the slim ps3 is lighter, and almost never over heats. The Slim CAN NOT play ps2 games, only ps1 & ps3 games. However the phat ps3,IS backwards compatible & can play ps1,ps2,& ps3 games. The phat PS3 also weighs alot more than the slim, and gets the YLOD easier. They both have their ups & downs. My reccimendation would be to get the phat ps3. (sorry about the bad spelling)

It actually takes a while, just keep it in a well vented area and it wont over heat.
