try moving your mute switch to on, or try putting USB in a different powered USB port.

If you have the mute button perfectly balanced in the middle of mute and open it shows the light as off all the time, perhaps that has happened?
Do they work or is it just the light?

Sounds stupid but if I have this problem I usually need to restart my Xbox and then it works fine.

Okay follow this;

Turn off Xbox.

Unplug Xbox.

Unplug controller [if it's plugged in]

Unplug headset.

Connect headset, then controller then turn your Xbox back on.

If it still doesn't work, check the headset cables. Are they broken? twisted? damaged?

If none of that solves it then it looks like you might have to dig for the receipt and take them back.
