Hello guys. I have been having this problem with my computer for about an hour. I tried to turn on my laptop and I get a message that says "windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". I then get the option to launch startup repair, or start windows normally.

If I hit launch startup repair- screen goes black for about 5 minutes and then a screen comes up with just a large cursor and nothing else and stays that way

If I hit start windows normally- it starts the computer up again I just does it all over again.

I need this computer for school and do not have the money for another one. It is a gateway laptop. It is only about 2 years old and is running windows 7. I searched about it as much as I could on my sisters iPod, and found nothing.

Help would be greatly appreciated, and rep will be given to whoever provides me with a successful repair for the problem! Thanks!

How far do you make it before it crashes?

When you turn it on spam F8 until you get a screen that has options, such as Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking, etc.

Go to the third option (Forgot what it was called) it starts with safe mode, run that.
If that doesn't work just try any other safe mode options.

Reply back to this thread, and let me know how it went.

If i don't respond PM me.

I start my computer gateway logo comes uP like normal. Then it says starting windows and after about 10 seconds it Puts me at the windows could not be started screen. I tried what you said with the safe modes and nothing happened, the same screen just comes up. Windows repair doesn't seem to be working either. Any other ideas?

Most likely your motherboard is frying. Check to see if there are any know hardware problems of that model. Also if is the motherboard the more you turn it on and it crashes the more it fries it and warps it. :/ I had the same problem with my old laptop and I had the motherboard replaced once and then it started happening again :/ It's best just to buy a new laptop.

Had a feeling it was something like that . This is gonna suck because I have no money and I'm not sure if i can get all my stuff from the old laptop to the new one. Oh well I guess. Thanks for the help. +rep
