A reliable Resident Evil leaker has reported that Resident Evil 9 will take place within a fictional rural town on an island, a setting that would be pretty unique for the series.

Even though Capcom hasn't officially announced that it's working on Resident Evil 9 yet, it's one of the gaming industry's worst-kept secrets and something that we've been hearing whispers about ever since the release of Village. So far, we've heard that it's going to have some open-world elements and that it might be releasing in 2025.

A lot of this information has come from reliable Capcom leaker Dusk Golem (also known as AestheticGamer1), who has been sharing rumours about the Resident Evil series for years now. Golem has been accurate with many of their reports, which makes their most recent claims about Resident Evil 9 even more exciting.

Earlier this week, Dusk Golem claimed that Resident Evil 9 might not have been internally delayed like they previously reported, and that it's aiming to release next year. Alongside that reveal, Golem answered a question sent in by a Twitter user, which asked whether they could comment on the game being set in South Asia.

In response, Golem said that Resident Evil 9 is going to take place in a fictional rural town on an island in the Southeast Asia Sea that's specifically inspired by Singapore. They didn't go into much further detail, but it's a very interesting location for a Resident Evil game that we haven't really seen explored that often. Not the rural town bit, that happens all the time.

The most notable example of a Resident Evil game taking place on an island is Resident Evil 4, as the final stretch of the game takes place in a location simply known as "The Island". Although it was controversial in the original game and usually viewed as the weakest section of the game, it was done a lot more justice in the remake and shined as an example of how a remake can improve on its predecessor.
