A recent post on Reddit stated that EA is "trying to do a bunch of skins" and apparently wanted to check if players would be willing to spend on "cosmetic" items. OP further states that these images are "directly from EA." How OP spoke on the post, it would seem that they are one of these insider playtesters, and, if these images are true, they likely are.
The image collection, which you can check out here, shows off numerous illustrations of skaters in different outfits. A lot of these are pretty standard everyday outfits without much flair, while some get much wackier, like the psychedelic unicorn skin, the hotdog costume skin (with hotdog shoes included), and the cardboard robot skin. The images also show off various skateboard designs, as undoubtedly players will also be able to customize their skateboard.
These illustrations are quite well done and there are a lot of them, so smart money is on this leak being real, but chances are we'll never know until the game finally releases (there is currently no slated release window for skate.). The devs over at Full Circle have been uploading playtest highlights for the game, as seen above, and given how raw and unpolished the visuals and animations skill look, it's likely the game is still far from launching.
If the leaker can be believed, Full Circle sent these images out to playtesters to get a feel for how willing they'd be to spend money on them. Though this might not be exactly true (or true at all), skate. has been confirmed to be a free-to-play game, so it only makes sense for it to be monetized with micro-transactions.
