Baldur's Gate 3 has been the talk of the town this month, and while it is already available on PC, with a PS5 release due next week, Xbox fans are still stuck playing the waiting game. While developer Larian Studios had assured in the past that the game is still slated to release this year on Xbox, a release window still wasn't provided. Now it seems like the studio has something more concrete and has given fans an update about when they can expect the game to release on the platform.

In a new interview with IGN, director Swen Vincke has ended the guessing games with an update, to some extent. "It's 2023. And 2023 is narrowing, so it's already pretty precise in my book. Between September and November... So, as fast as we can honestly," Vincke told IGN. Essentially, this statement rules out Baldur's Gate 3 releasing on Xbox consoles in December. Vincke also reassured fans that although the studio is aiming to release it as soon as possible, it isn't its top priority right now.

Patch 2 is around the corner. It features major performance improvements, many new tweaks & changes, and begins our journey incorporating feedback into Origin Character epilogues, among other major things. Details coming soon.

Larian Studios is currently focusing its efforts on the release of Baldur's Gate 3 on the PlayStation 5, which is set to launch on September 6. Additionally, there are a number of bugs that still need to be fixed, such as Balthazar turning into a sheep, which fans actually want to be a feature after all.

Nonetheless, while the developers have mentioned September as a potential release window, it is likely that they would spend the next few weeks addressing any potential issues in the PlayStation 5 port. We have already seen a major patch drop on PC addressing a whopping 1,000+ bugs among other changes, and the developers are on their way to release another major update that will include substantial performance improvements and "many new tweaks and changes" alongside "a more fleshed-out ending for Karlach."

This staged release for the game seems to have worked well, although the original intention was something else, with the game becoming one of the most successful single-player games on PC in recent times, rivaling the likes of Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy. Initially, the PC port was released earlier so it doesn't clash with the likes of Starfield and Cyberpunk's upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion.

With Starfield around the corner, Xbox fans would want to dedicate their time to their most anticipated release in the past few years and probably wouldn't mind an October or November release for Baldur's Gate 3.
