Phil Rosenberg of Sony described it as “a major milestone, and one we’re particularly proud of considering the myriad Netflix-compatible streaming devices on the market”
Netflix was introduced to the PS3 in Novemeber 2009 and has been the primary platform for testing and introducing new features to the service. PS3 Users were the first to test and receive features such as full 1080P video resolution, 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus, post play, second screen controls, on device sign-up and alternate audio options including subtitles.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings stated that:
“PS3 is our largest TV-connected platform in terms of Netflix viewing, and this year, at times, even surpassed the PC in hours of Netflix enjoyment to become our number one platform overall. PS3 is a natural fit for Netflix in terms of developing and first deploying our most advanced features. We can transparently update our application with new features on a daily basis, and through the free PlayStation Network, people around the world can sign up for Netflix directly from their PS3.”
Earlier this year Netflix brought their service to the PS Vita in the US and added a feature that would allow users to start watching a movie or TV show on their PS3, pause it, then continue watching via their PS Vita.
UK PS Vita owners are disappointed that its taking so long for them receive the same features.
