PS5 with Detachable Disc Drive Won’t Have Major Hardware Changes

4
The PS5 is over two years old now, and many have started to wonder whether Sony has any hardware revisions or new models planned for the console in the coming months. Interestingly, the leaks have claimed that that very much is the plan, with journalist Tom Henderson having reported a few months ago that Sony is working on a new PS5 model that will come with a detachable disc drive.

Now, Henderson has provided another brief update on the new model. Taking to Twitter, the journalist recently claimed that the new PS5 model will not feature “any major hardware changes” (other than the detachable disc drive, of course), which means you shouldn’t expect any major upgrades to specs. Henderson also says the disc drive itself is not going to be compatible with the current digital edition of the PS5.

Supposedly, Sony will begin production on the new model in April ahead of a launch in September, at which point it will replace both current PS5 models and become the only available option.

Meanwhile, recent retailer listings in Europe have also suggested that sometime in the near future, Sony will be releasing a new PS5 bundle that will come with two DualSense controllers.

I think it's a silly idea. You'll have wires sticking out of it at all angles!
