Mortal Kombat 1 Shows First Look At Homelander

4.2
Mortal Kombat 1 has been very slowly dishing out post-launch content since release, adding characters such as Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and most recently, Ermac. However, creator Ed Boon has been keen to remind fans that there are plenty more cool additions where they came from, and after thanking fans for the positive reception to Ermac, Boon gave us a first look at the next character being added to the roster, Homelander.

We only get a look at him for a few seconds during a short pre-fight banter slinging match with Lui Kang, so there's no actual gameplay in Boon's little tease, but this is the first time we've seen his design in Mortal Kombat 1. Just like with Omni-Man and Peacemaker, it's a very faithful design for Homelander, though he seems to look a tad bit older than his appearance in The Boys.

It's also worth noting that the banter slinging is very one-sided, as despite Lui Kang giving the villain some lip, the video cuts out before Homelander is able to talk smack back to him. That wouldn't be all that notable, but there have been lots of questions recently surrounding the voice actor for Homelander, as fans still have their fingers crossed that actor Anthony Starr has been brought in to voice the character.

Unfortunately, Starr himself confirmed that he won't play the character, as he either wasn't asked by Warner Bros. or developer NetherRealm to reprise his role for Mortal Kombat 1, or that negotiations fell through at some stage. Starr claimed in December last year that he was "open" to voicing the character, leading to even more confusion about why he was left out, unlike J.K. Simmons and John Cena, who were brought in to voice Omni-Man and Peacemaker respectively.

Homelander's lack of a comeback in Ed Boon's little teaser could either indicate that he simply didn't want the conversation to revolve around a new voice actor, or that the voice acting debacle is still ongoing behind the scenes. Either way, we probably won't know for sure whether Starr has been brought in until we get a look at some proper Homelander gameplay, which seems to be pretty soon if Boon is willing to show this first look.
