Evil West Reveals Online Co-Op Gameplay

Developer Flying Wild Hog has announced that it will be bringing an online co-op mode for its upcoming third-person shooter Evil West. The company announced the addition to the game in a YouTube trailer, where the lead producer Tomasz Gop gave a rundown of the game mode. Evil West is set to be published by Focus Entertainment later this month.

Evil West is an action-adventure from the third-person perspective set in an alternate version of the wild west. Instead of the classic cowboy motif, players will enter a battle between vampire hunters and vampires - and all sorts of other evil beings. The game focuses on the single-player campaign where Jesse Rentier, one of the last vampire hunters, takes on supernatural enemies trying to capture the American West.

According to Gop, the cooperative multiplayer experience is going to follow suit with what Flying Wild Hog has already revealed about Evil West's gameplay. Each of the two players will be playing the same character, Jesse Rentier from the single-player campaign. This means that all the abilities, weapons, and skills that Jesse might have are available to both players. The co-op mode will be available for two players only, and only one of the players will be advancing the mission.

Flying Wild Hog wanted to make the co-op experience as straightforward as possible, which might have to do with Evil West's delayed release. The online co-op experience is simply just a single-player campaign with two players. Sharing the campaign with a friend is a nice addition, but it is noteworthy that only the host will be progressing in the storyline. This suggests that trophies and achievements will only be unlocked for the host, as well, although there's no official word on that.

While technically it's the same campaign with the same progression, there are still differences. The most important changes include the amount, the toughness, and the composition of enemies, which makes it more challenging and suitable for two players instead of one. With the introduction of the mode, the team has also included a couple of minutes of gameplay from the co-op, which shows the two Jesses taking on packs of werewolves, glaive-wielding monsters, and tag-teaming bosses similarly to the horror action game Darkwatch.

Evil West was first revealed in the 2020 Game Awards where Flying Wild Hog introduced the formerly retired vampire hunter Jesse Rentier to the public. Last month the Shadow Warrior developer announced that the game had gone gold, a couple of months ahead of its release.

Evil West is set to release on November 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
