DOOM Eternal Running at Max Settings on RTX 3080 is a Thing to Behold
Just a few days back, Nvidia announced its new RTX 30 Series line of graphics cards with the RTX 3080 card being dubbed the brand’s new “flagship” model. While Nvidia didn’t get to show off too much of just what this new card was capable of during its presentation, some new gameplay footage featuring one of 2020’s biggest games has now given us a better idea.
Nvidia released a new video today which shows off some footage of id Software’s DOOM Eternal running with the RTX 3080 in tow, and holy smokes, y’all. The video shows comparisons between the RTX 3080 and what was previously considered one of Nvidia’s most powerful cards in the RTX 2080 Ti. Running at max settings, DOOM Eternal is able to consistently net between 100-130fps during combat, with even higher frames being achievable depending on what is happening in-game. All of this is running at a 4K resolution as well, which is wild.
Seriously, you should watch this full video right here if you want to have your mind blown:
What stands out to me the most in this video though isn’t just the clarity or high FPS that the RTX 3080 can pull off, it’s the lighting. The reflections that you can see bouncing off of the DOOM Slayer’s shotgun while he mows down hordes of demons is just incredible. While I have not been a big believer in ray tracing for one reason or another up to this point, I think this is the presentation that finally won me over.
The RTX 3080 is set to release later this month on September 17 and will retail for $699. Conversely, DOOM Eternal is also set to receive its first piece of post-launch DLC next month when The Ancient Gods drops on October 20. The game itself is also set to come to PS5 and Xbox Series X in the future, but I’m hard-pressed to believe it will look anywhere closer to as good as what was shown here on PC.
