Yesterday was a big day for Bungie and Destiny 2. Not only did the game’s latest expansion, Shadowkeep, end up releasing, but Destiny 2 also launched in a new free-to-play model called New Light in addition to coming to Steam. Despite some server issues throughout the day, it looks as though players on PC were eager to jump into the game for either the first time or the thousandth.
According to GitHyp, Destiny 2 hit a peak of over 200,000 concurrent players yesterday on PC. More specifically, the game’s height throughout the day nearly hit 219K players at one single point. That’s not too shabby for its first day of availability on Steam, especially considering it’s a two-year-old game.
Destiny 2 ended up sitting at number four overall on Steam’s concurrent player charts throughout the day following only behind Dota 2, Counter-Strike: GO, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. That said, those three titles are typically always near the top of Steam’s concurrent player chart and likely won’t be surpassed by Destiny 2 at any time soon. All in all though, Bungie has to be happy with how the game has performed thus far.
In addition to being out on PC now, Destiny 2 Shadowkeep and New Light are also available now on PS4 and Xbox One. Stay tuned in the coming days to hear more of our thoughts on the game’s newest expansion.
