I want better FPS and right now I don't think my single GTX 970 is doing a lot. I can either get a 980Ti 6B or if even possible get another GTX 970 4GB which will hopefully give me around 8GB of VRAM?

VRAM doesnt add up.

If you're playing at 1080p, no reason for either.

If you are planning on getting a higher resolution monitor, get a 980ti. Always better to get one more powerful card.

The VRAM doesn't stack atm, but another 970 would be better for you as you wouldn't have to get rid of your current 970 and shell out another £500+ on a single GPU. If you really want to max out the very demanding games at 4k then you could get a 980 ti and add another one in SLI later on, but 2x 970's should be perfect for 4k gaming. It all depends on your PSU though.

At the moment I'm on a Corsair 650W PSU. I've been thinking about upgrading PSU too.

My rig at the moment is: i7 4790k, 16 GB RAM, VII Maximus Mobo and the GTX 970 but I don't feel as if I'm getting the best from my rig. A PSU and GPU is needed I think

Well the cheapest 970 in SLI is roughly around the same price as the cheapest 980ti.

The 980ti will outperform 970 in SLI so I would go with a 980ti.

And then you have the option of being able to add another 980ti in SLI in the future.

The PSY should be fine, not great. If you're planning on SLI, you would need a new PSU. Such as an EVGA or XFX 850w.

Your GPU is very strong. Dont see any upgrade needed if at 1080p. Since you want to upgrade, get a 980ti.

Before we talk numbers, what are you trying to play, at what resolution and what FPS are you getting now?

Wouldn't I be better off buying a Titan X in that case then? Not looking to upgrade to a better GPU every year but I feel as if my 970 is dying so a 980 might need to be invested in asap

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago.

I went for a second 970, as it was the best option money-wise.

980 Ti advantages are more VRAM, less noise, less heat, less FPS delays, no hassle with SLI profiles, and much less power consumption
970 SLI advantages are a bit cheaper price, maybe a bit faster GPU in general (depending on the game engine, SLI optimizations and overclocks)
980Ti disadvantage is that it won't look as dank as 970SLI
970SLI disadvantage is more power consumption, more heat, potential game issues that don't support SLI or have issues with it, game scaling can also be an issue.
