Game Information

Release Date: November 6, 2000
Developer: Eurocom
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform(s): PlayStation, PlayStation Network
Genre: Party
Players: 1-4

Synopsis

Get your friends together and let the good times roll with CRASH BASH. Thanks to the multitap, four players can compete simultaneously for a real party atmosphere. Choose from eight characters including Crash, Coco, Dingodile, Tiny, Neo Cortex, and Neo Brio, and then charge into the seven mini-games. Ride polar bears and try to push your friends off an iceberg in Polar Panic, or hop into a tank and blast your buddies into tiny bits in Desert Fox. Every game is easy to pick up and play, but even harder to put down. Additionally, each game has four unique variations for a total of 28 different games. Never fear though, because if your friends are busy you can play alone. Take a character through all 28 challenges and beat the snot out of the computer. CRASH BASH is the game that will keep the party going.

Story

In an unknown part of the universe are two brothers, Aku Aku and Uka Uka, whom, are arguing over whether good is stronger than evil. Aku then decides the best way to settle the argument once and for all. But when Uka attempts to fight him, Aku reminds him that they don't have anything against each other. So they agree on holding a contest to decide. They both summon numerous players to represent each team. If the "good" side were to win, Uka, will be furious and want to know how they beat him. But if the "bad" side were to win, a huge storm would occur informing everyone in the universe that he has won.

Gameplay

Being a party game, Crash Bash features several different mini games that allow you and one other player to team up, or compete against, with two other AIs. Each player will have several different characters to choose from, though none differ other than looks. These mini games can be either played in a tournament, where you have to play all thirty two games and modes but will also unlock secret and extra mini games, or in a free mode, where any game can be chosen at any time with custom rules and difficulties. Most of these mini games will require you to complete certain objectives to get finish in first place. These mini games include playing air hockey in bumper cars, knocking each other off of an iceberg, and making patterns in a forest arena to build up points. The main objective is to collect the most number one, or gold, trophies. At the end of each round they add up from what place you were in each game.

Graphics

From the get-go, it's instantly noticeable that the graphics weren't the top priority here. Whilst things are somewhat detailed to an extent, most things will look very blockey and pixelated. Each game is in a very small area so these things will be obvious. Every single character is easily recognizable, however, they too look very blocky. Since everything is basically like this, the game will lag from time to time and random frames will disappear leaving obnoxious white spots in some areas.

Controls

The control layout in Crash Bash is the least complex of any game. Most buttons will not be required at all, besides the D-pad, triggers, and one button. The D-pad will control the movement of the character, the triggers will shoot if needed, and the A will do actions such as jumping, boosting, and blocking.
