Synopsis
SUPERHOT is a unique, stylish first-person shooter game where time moves only when you move.

With this simple mechanic we've been able to create gameplay that's not all about reflexes - the player's main weapon is careful aiming and smart planning - while not compromising on the dynamic feeling of the game.

Take your time. You have as much as you want.

Aim/Objective
The aim of this game is to progress through all of the levels doing what you are set to do. In the Prototype, there are only a few levels and all of them require the same thing to progress to the next one. However, some of the levels have you attacking an enemy from behind and take their weapon, while another has you run down a corridor to obtain a gun while enemies at the other end are shooting at you with nowhere to hide. The last level in the Prototype however, is different. You have to walk into a room where there is an unarmed enemy standing there doing nothing. You are prompted to 'KILL THE CEO'. After killing him, a video appears on your screen which talks to you almost as if something went on before that you don't know about. The man in the video urges you to jump out of a window, but stops you before you hit the ground telling you that you have 'done well' and the Prototype ends there.

Gameplay
SUPERHOT is a game like no other, as the popular quote states 'time only moves when you move'. This is the reality of the game, it is truly breathtaking to play as it is something that I have never experienced before. This game has the feel of an old arcade game, yet it does not look, or seem to be anything like one. The game has you walk around and kill enemies. It is not just another FPS however, you must use your mind and reflexes to figure out what to do and how to do it. One bullet and you're dead, so no mistakes can be made. You have to attack enemies, take their weapons and use them to eliminate the opponents; you will have to dodge bullets in slow motion in order to survive, and some of these moments are extremely intense and just excite you even more. These images below are perfect examples of this:

The game has numerous different levels, which require you to use certain tactics; whether it is moving from column to column for cover from the masses of enemies, to doing quick turns to eliminate foes from all angles and directions. What is more amazing, the original prototype for this game was made in 7 days for the 7DFPS Challenge. This is only the prototype, but I pre-ordered the full game instantly after finishing the this first version, it amazed me beyond explanation.

Graphics
This game is played from a first person perspective. There are little to no HUD items, no ammo count, no health meter; which adds to the simplicity of the game.
The graphics in this game a mind-blowingly detailed, from the slow motion head shattering, to the geometrically beautiful bullet design. You could also say that the graphic design is quite simple, in the Prototype it consists of grey walls with shadows and lighting, and enemies with blocky models that are red. I have to admit, achieving all of this in 7 days is an astonishing feat. In the full version of the game however, the models feature aesthetically pleasing edges, reflections and lighting. Here are some screenshots from the Prototype version of the game:

Just seeing the bullets fly inches away from you gives you a sense of power, that you can avoid death by so little. Shooting the enemies is equally as beautiful, the bodies fly back and shatter when they come in contact with anything, the heads break like glass and the bullets leave a red streak almost as if it were a trail of blood.

Controls
The controls of this game are really nice and fit the needs of the game perfectly. The way you can move to the side of a bullet in seconds is brilliant, and the controls make it easy to dodge them. The controls for this game are very easy and similar to most other First Person Shooters, using the WASD for moving, SPACE to jump and the Left Mouse Button to shoot and the Mouse to look around. This makes the game even easier to get into, even though it is strange at first as you will need to know when you move, look and shoot

Facts
  • This game gathered 11,626 backers on Kickstarter raising $250,798 for the development of the game
  • There is a backer-only reddit-based forum for those who backed the game on Kickstarter and for those who pre-ordered it
  • As an April fools joke, the SUPERHOT team made another version of the game called [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] using the 1996 Quake Engine. This game is based on the legendary game QUAKE which was the foundry for nowadays First Person Shooters.
