Synopsis:

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels. Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Story:

Welcome to Far Cry, you play as Jack Carver a man who runs his own boat charter business but his adventure begins when one day he is approached by a woman named Val Cortez. She hires Jack to take her to a uncharted Island but upon arriving at this Island Val all of a sudden takes off on Jack and he is left to defend himself as he watches his boat be blown up by a rocket. Jack will then start traveling across various lands in order to try to find Val and figure out what is happening on this island. As Jack starts to learn the horrible truth about the island he eventually comes across Val's path once more and she reveals to him she is actually a CIA agent and is investigating the things happening on the island. As the island begins to breakout into war you must save Val and help her and yourself escape this island otherwise be prepared for the horrors to come.

Gameplay:

Far Cry is a game that has really interesting game play and I personally really enjoyed playing the game for the most part. Far Cry has always been known to have really fun campaigns that keep the gamer entertain and give you a rush of excitement and adventure and this is were it all started (kinda). The first half almost of this campaign is actually quite good and I found it really fun and realistic based on you are fighting actual humans while moving through the jungle. You get to drive a multiple of vehicles which is really fun and get to scope out camps before attacking the mercenaries that are there. But then you get to the second half of the campaign and this is were the campaign goes way downhill from here during the second half of the campaign you encounter the mutant mercenaries that are just ridiculously hard to kill and really end up ruining the game at least for me they did. They take way to much damage and can kill you in either one or two hits. The difficulty for this game once you meet the mutants goes from kinda hard to nearly impossible, I have never came across a enemy that frustrated me so much. But the other issue I had is how accurate enemies can be with a rocket launcher or just a gun and hit you in a way you would not think is possible. But overall I do think the storyline for the game is quite good and interesting and the first half of the game is actually fun and I did really enjoy it. Even with the second half of the game being ridiculously hard some gamers do like a challenge and if you like a hard shooting game then this is what you need to get. I only recommend this game to people who really enjoy a challenge and do not get to mad when you die a lot because it will happen especially when you get to the second half.

Graphics:

The graphics for Far Cry for the time of release are actually something really good that most gamers back then would have been extremely impressed with. But in today's gaming world these graphics would be considered old and might not impress some players. The attention to detail for this game is actually quite good and I was honestly impressed because I was not expecting a lot of detail to this game but it does have it. The atmosphere for this game is quite well done as well with the jungle being really nice looking and as you move through the jungle you will notice shadows from trees and bushes come across your gun as you move between them. When you use your binoculars you can look beyond the land and see are nice the actual overall game really looks. I personally really like the graphics and think they look good. Overall the graphics for Far Cry are quite impressive and I personally like them. They are considered old but still do look good and I do not see why any gamer would not be okay with them. The detail to this game is good and I was impressed by it.

Controls:

The controls for Far Cry are pretty basic and follow your standard first person shooter (FPS) control layout. I found the controls easy to learn and really easy to retain and do not see how any gamer could have issues with the controls. I personally think the controls fit the game well and help make the game more enjoyable sense you really do not have to think to much on the controls while playing. I do like how interactive the controls are for the game and really think they fit nicely. I honestly did not find anything wrong with the controls at all. Overall the controls fit the game and work just fine. I do not see any need to change the control layout at all sense it does a good job of letting the gamer be interactive with the game.
