Synopsis:

Black is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on 24 February 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox video game consoles. The game is notable for its heavily stylized cinema-inspired action as well as its award winning sound quality and focus on destructive effects during game play. Black takes place in Ingushetia and Chechnya, Russian Federation. The protagonist is a black ops soldier named Sergeant First Class Jack Kellar (portrayed by Marty Papazian). Kellar tells most of the story in first-person at an interrogation four days after the events in the story begin.

Story:

Welcome Mr. Kellar, We need you again for a very important mission. I assume you are up for the task at hand. We need your unique skills and strategic thinking to complete this mission. You will have access to any gun you desire, same goes for other equipment as well. It will be your job to take on our enemy from the shadows and strike when appropriate, If you fail we all are doomed. On your journey you will come across other black ops members that will help you along the way to defeat our enemy once and for all. Best of luck to you soldier and I hope you bring our enemy down with a iron fist.

Gameplay:

Black is like any other first person shooter (FPS) game that throws you right into the fighting and action. The game is like any other shooter game with only being able to carry two different types of weapons which can make this game hard if you do not have the right guns to mow down your enemy. Black throws in right in the action as Sergeant First Class Jack Kellar, A block ops who works for the CIA. Your job is to collect different types of blue prints and other types of intelligence as you push back the enemy in a almost gorilla warfare type game play. Black does have a pretty cool destruction atmosphere that will allow you to blow up a lot of different things that will throw your enemy off and or benefit you as you try to complete the mission. With all the different guns available to use you will never get bored replaying missions as you can try to beat them with different guns that are a bit harder to use. I think the storyline is also really cool and fun to watch all the little videos in between the missions. This game is a fast paced game that is mostly run and gun to beat levels. The enemy can become a bit of a pain at times to try to kill as you progress through the campaign. Overall This game is pretty fun and can be hard at times as well. I personally like The the storyline a lot and think a lot of time was put into it. All the different guns and equipment is awesome as well, With so many different guns in this game it will take some time before you will use them all. I do recommend this game to anyone who likes a fast paced FPS shooter.

Graphics:

Black really has good graphics if you think when it was released (2006). When I played this game I thought the graphics were really good and had pretty good attention to detail. All the guns and gun shells looked real to me and owning a few firearms myself I noticed some of the guns look just like some of the one I personally own. I think the guns especially have a lot of detail to them and a lot of time was most likely spent on the design of the guns. I think the surrounding atmosphere is also pretty detailed which I was not really expecting when playing this game at first. The destructive surroundings is also something I was not expecting, you can destroy some objects in game and see the marks and such left by your bullet. With all the explosions and bright flashes in this game it is as if you are there fighting, I think all the different colors flow so nicely and look good. Overall the graphics are way better then most games from 2006. I personally find myself really liking them a lot and think they make the game better.

Controls:

The controls for Black are no different from any other FPS game. Most of the game is controlled with just a few buttons that are really easy to remember and learn. There is no reason why anyone should have problems understanding these controls because that are extremely basic. I do think the controls fit the game really well though and makes you almost feel like you are actually there in the gun fight as bullets fly past your head. I find shooting guns really iterative and fun because of the controls. Overall the controls are good and fit the game well, there really is no need for a tutorial sense they are so basic and easy to remember.

Overall:

Gameplay: 8.5/10
Graphics: 8.5/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 8.7/10

Extras:

This game was released for the Xbox 360 which I never got a chance to play I only played it on the Ps2. But this game is fun and I do recommend picking this game up and trying it out. I think you will like it.
