Synopsis:

Besiege is a physics based building game in which you construct medieval siege engines and lay waste to immense fortresses and peaceful hamlets. Build a machine which can crush windmills, wipe out battalions of brave soldiers and transport valuable resources, defending your creation against cannons, archers and whatever else the desperate enemies have at their disposal. Create a trundling behemoth, or take clumsily to the skies, and cause carnage in fully destructible environments. Ultimately, you must conquer every Kingdom by crippling their castles and killing their men and livestock, in as creative or clinical a manner as possible!

Story:

Your time has come, the king needs you to invent new types of military weapons that will change the outcome of your battles as you take down and destroy the enemy. It will be your job to change the law of physics as you create awesome and dangerous weapons. It will be you that changes the medieval era as you combine and invent different types of engines that can fly or be driven right into your enemy. The time has come to change the ways of war for ever.

Game play:

Welcome to Besiege, the medieval warfare game that will test you to the max. It will be your job to design and build new types of weapons that are strong enough to destroy any kingdom. Besiege is a really fun game that can be very hard to play if you are not good at creating medieval siege engines (this would be me). Even though I am not a genius when it comes to medieval engineering I still find this game tons of fun that will last your countless hours of game play. what keeps you sucked into this game the most is the detail to the destruction of the buildings and landscape as you plow and blow up everything in your path. But it is not always as glorious as you may hope. With all great inventions there is always some that fail. As you build your engines you might end up blowing up your great and glorious weapon from time to time. The other problem you might come across is the enemy blowing up your engines with either cannons or arrows which can also destroy your engine. As you progress through the levels it gets harder and harder and will test you at times. you may get stuck at times but if that is the case you can always Google tutorials for that level. Overall I think this game is really awesome and I have lost track of time a few times because of it. I recommend it to anyone who likes to build and destroy stuff.

When it comes to building your engine there is so much stuff you can do to it. You can make it run on wheels or even fly, with all the customization you can make to your engine the only thing that holds you back is your creativity. When you start you have a single square which is were you start your creation as you build and perfect your engine to the way you like. Even if you beat a level it is always fun to go back and try to beat it in a different way maybe instead of using a cannon you use a flamethrower to torch your enemies. With all the different ways to create your engine every time you test it out it will be different from the rest. My favorite part is finding new ways to build my engine to see what it will do and how it reacts to fire and explosions. In the sandbox mode you can test everything you want and take on forts and castles or try to drive your engine up hills and throw walls. I recommend sandbox mode if you just want to play around with things and see how they react.

Graphics:

The developers of Besiege did it right when it comes to the graphics of the game. All the little details when you are either killing soldiers or destroying a castle is awesome as you watch your engine destroy everything in it's path or destroy itself before you even get started. When things blow up (especially a wall) you actually see it just explode into a million pieces. I like the design of of the way the engines move and react to certain things as well. attention to detail must of been a huge thing for these developers and I think it has shown pretty well. Overall I think the graphics are pretty awesome and especially for the price of the game you could not ask for anything better.

Controls:

The controls for Besiege have me pretty torn to be honest. It really all depends on how you build your engine. If you build it incorrectly or poorly then it can be very hard to control it when moving it and even shoot it. It really comes down to how your engine is built. I like it this way however because it makes it even more realistic when trying to drive or fly a engine that either will work or not. Because of this it does make you have to think a little extra and I think this is why I am torn between if I actually like the controls or not. I like the idea if your engine is poorly designed and made then it might not move well. But it also can be very frustrating at the same time trying to turn and dodge cannon balls. Overall I think the controls are pretty decent and can very on the difficulty depending on your engine.

Overall:

Gameplay: 8/10
Graphics: 9/10
Controls: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

Extras:

For this game just recently being released is is currently under $10. I would pick it up if you are even thinking about buying it before it becomes more expensive. It is available on steam right now for that price and it looks like it is starting to become pretty popular.
