Genre(s) Action-adventure
Mode(s) Single-player, multiplayer

Saints Row is a 2006 open world action-adventure video game for the Xbox 360. Developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ, Saints Row initially released in North America on August 29, 2006, followed by an Australian release two days later and a European release on September 1, 2006. It met with generally positive critical reception; reviewers noted its similarities with the Grand Theft Auto series, with some feeling that Saints Row improved Grand Theft Auto's open world formula. A PlayStation 3 port of the game was cancelled in 2007, with Volition moving on to full development of the sequel Saints Row 2, which released in 2008. The success of Saints Row and its sequel have since seen the development of Saints Row as a series, including a third and fourth entry.

Like other open world games, Saints Row allows players to freely roam the play space and engage in missions at their leisure. Missions are unlocked by trading in "Respect" points, currency earned by completing mini-games, and are played through three story arcs each with the objective of overthrowing a rival gang. Saints Row is set in the fictional city Stilwater, modeled on Chicago and Detroit. The player character becomes inadvertently involved in a gunfight between the three gangs fighting for control of Stilwater; Los Carnales, the Vice Kings, and the Westside Rollerz. He joins forces with the 3rd Street Saints gang, based out of the Saint's Row district, and works with the Saints to free Stilwater from gang control.

GamePlay:
At the beginning of the game, players create their character through a system that allows them to customize his ethnicity, fitness, face and hairstyle. After completing the first mission, players are then given free roam over the game's open world, the fictional city of Stilwater, which is modeled after Detroit and Chicago. The game makes use of third-person view, which allows players to freely rotate the camera around their character. Players can run, jump, swim or utilize cars to navigate the world. They may also access the character customization system again at a plastic surgeon, apply cosmetic changes to their character at clothes stores, tattoo parlors, barbers and jewelers, and tune vehicles at chop shops. A personal garage can be used to store customized vehicles, and vehicles that have been destroyed or lost can be redeemed for a cash fee.

Bar the introductory and epilogue mission sequences, missions in Saints Row are divided between three linear story arcs which can be progressed through simultaneously or one by one, each with the objective of extinguishing a rival gang. Players engage in these missions at their leisure, but a prerequisite to instigate a mission is that they have filled up a bar on their Respect meter to allow them to unlock and play it. Respect is a currency earned by completing activities, which are mini-games that are scattered across the world and have increasing levels of difficulty. Missions and activities also accrue players cash income, which can be spent on goods and services such as weapons and clothes. Should players fail a mission, they may instantly reattempt it without incurring a loss of their Respect points. Cinemas scattered throughout the game world allow players to replay missions an unlimited number of times.

A player fires at traffic with the rocket launcher
Players use hand-to-hand combat, melee weapons, firearms and explosives to fight rival gangs and the police. A free aiming reticule appears on the screen while players have weapons equipped. Weapons are accessed by a "weapon wheel" inventory system which appears on the screen as players hold down a button. Each of the eight slots on the wheel correspond to different types of weapons, such as submachine guns and pistols. Players may only carry one of each type of weapon at a time. Saints Row makes use of regenerative health, but this process can be accelerated by eating fast food items.

A "wanted level" system governs the response by opposing forces to players' aggressive actions. In the head-up display, surrounding the minimap, are two bars; the topmost bar represents rival gangs and the bottommost bar represents the police. As players incite opposing forces, the corresponding bar fills up. Each bar filled is represented by the provoked enemy's logo, be it a star to represent the police or a "gang sign" to represent an enemy gang. One bar of notoriety will result in non-lethal retalliation however two, three, four or five bars of notoriety will result in a gradually increased lethal response. Notoriety depletes over time, but enemies will continue to be aggressive towards players until the meter recedes. Players may remove their notoriety instantly by utilizing drive-through confessional booths, visiting plastic surgeons, or inputting cheat codes. If arrested by the police, players will reappear outside a police station with a small bounty collected from their earnings.

Player progression through the game directly affects the presence of their friendly gang, the 3rd Street Saints. The game world is subdivided between districts, such as the Red Light or Downtown districts, each comprising several neighborhoods. Each neighborhood is controlled by a rival gang, but as players complete missions the 3rd Street Saints will take over neighborhoods, causing street members of the gang to spawn there. The pause menu displays a large map of the game world, which allows players to view a graphical representation of the streetscape, and a color filter over each of the neighborhoods represents the gang whom control that neighborhood. Saints Row features an in-game GPS navigation device, which allows players to set waypoints with a directional line indicating the quickest route to the marked destination. Players may enlist allied forces, referred to as homies, to aid in combat. Street members of the 3rd Street Saints may be summoned, or players may call up unique homies on their in-game mobile phones. Players can further utilize their mobile phone to contact services such as taxicabs, or to input cheat codes.

Plot:
Stilwater is a huge, crime-filled city that is controlled by 4 major gangs; Vice Kings, an African-American gang that controls most of Stilwater's various forms of entertainment, Los Carnales, a Mexican gang that deals with arms and drug trafficking, and the Westside Rollerz, which specialize within the underground racing scene in Stilwater. The smallest gang is the 3rd Street Saints, which seeks peace on the streets clear of drugs.

At the start, the player is walking down the street when he notices a shootout. Though he attempts to maintain distance, he witnesses a fight amongst the Kings, Los Carnales and the Rollerz. Members from one of the gangs attempt to gun him down, but the Saints, led by Julius Little, step in and save him. Julius informs the player that he formed the Saints to bring down the other three gangs with the goal of returning peace to the streets. After proving himself to the Saints, the player is initiated into the gang and asked to assist them in taking over the city. The player, over the course of the game, assists in several missions and stronghold takeovers directed against each rival gang in turn, slowly bringing the entire city under the control of the Saints.

The player joins Johnny Gat, and his girlfriend, popular R&B singer Aisha, in their mission to bring down the Vice Kings, who control most of Stilwater's entertainment. They successfully target several of their interests, but eventually Johnny is captured by the VKs' enforcer Anthony Green. The player then kills Green and saves Johnny. However, Johnny is injured in the process and needs to use a leg brace afterwards. Later, Vice Kings second-in-command Warren Williams stages a mutiny and leads a coup against the leader Benjamin King, and King is forced to flee. On Julius' orders, the player saves King and attacks Williams, who is later killed by the Kings' prostitution manager Tanya Winters. The player and Gat, with King as their ally, attack the gang's headquarters where King kills Winters. King then departs from Stilwater since the Vice Kings are destroyed, on good terms.

The player and Saints member Dexter Jackson begin working against Los Carnales gang, who deal in arms and drugs. Several LC drug labs are hit and the player eventually assassinates their leader, Hector Lopez. Hector's younger brother Angelo takes charge and orders an attack on the Saints hideout, but they are unsuccessful, and the player kills the Carnales' enforcer Victor Rodriguez. Eventually, the Saints work out a deal with the Carnales liaison Manuel Orijuela, who gives up Angelo's location. The player and Dex attack it and Angelo is forced to flee by plane, which the player destroys, killing Angelo and terminating Los Carnales for good.

Saints member Lin disguises herself as a member of the street racing Westside Rollerz, and gives the player tips from within the gang. The two of them sabotage several of the Rollerz interests, but eventually Lin is found out and ratted by Donnie, Lin's love interest. She is shot and stuffed into her car trunk with the player by Rollerz financer William Sharp, who then pushes the car into the water. Lin sacrifices herself so that the player can escape and kill Sharp in a car chase. Eventually, Sharp's nephew and Rollerz leader Joseph Price attempt an attack on the Saints hideout but fail, resulting in the player killing Price in a car chase.

The player receives a call from Julius, who tells the player that he is the new second-in-command. However, he implies that he is about to be arrested by corrupt cops, who were waiting for the gang wars to end before they made their move against the Saints. At this point, other members of the Saints turn to the player for their orders.

To avenge Julius, the Saints begin attacking Stilwater's mayor and chief of police in order to free Julius from prison. Once this is complete, the player is invited to the private yacht of Alderman Richard Hughes, the only other candidate for mayor in the upcoming election. Hughes thanks the player for eradicating his political rival for him, and states that he is planning to use his mayoral power to destroy the Saints. The player responded to Hughes' ultimatum, and a bomb can be heard beeping and the yacht explodes, killing Hughes and his men, and seemingly killing the player.

Saints Row Characters:
3rd Street Saints
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The 3rd Street Saints begin as a minor element in Stilwater's current war for territory amongst its major gang factions: the Vice Kings, the Westside Rollerz and Los Carnales. Over the course of gameplay, the Saints become the most powerful organized gang in the city.

Julius Little
Julius Little is the leader of the 3rd Street Saints. He recruits The Protagonist during an altercation in Saints Row involving all three of Stilwater's prominent gang figures.

Troy
Troy is Julius's second-in-command.[1] Troy always seems to make critical information available to the Saints whenever it is time for The Protagonist to make a move against a rival gang.

Johnny Gat
Johnny Gat is a brash, hot-headed Saints lieutenant[2]. After the reclamation of Saints Row, Gat takes on the responsibility of dealing with the Vice Kings after Troy declines the assignment. Johnny also has a torrid, on again/off again relationship with local R&B diva, Aisha[mission/cutscene?]. Gat's strategies typically involve massive amounts of bloodshed and extensive property damage.

Dex
Dex is the voice of reason amongst Little's lieutenants. Dex is a superb tactician. Dex is very sensitive about incorrect grammar when saying "The Los Carnales".

Lin
Lin is the sole female lieutenant in the Saints. She is the self-titled "best racer to ever come out of Chinatown and her pride and joy is her customized Voxel. Julius Little assigns Lin the task of infiltrating the Westside Rollerz organization in an effort to gain more insight on how the Rollerz operate.

Vice Kings:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The Vice Kings began as an organization formed by Benjamin King in the Sunnyvale Gardens neighborhood of the Projects District, to counterbalance the might of Los Carnales. In present-day Stilwater, the VK's serve as little more than the private security force that serves to safeguard King's personal dynasty.
The VK's came into conflict with the 3rd Street Saints when Tanya Winters resorts to abduction in order to get new "talent" for her Prawn Court brothel and the VK's have the misfortune of unknowingly kidnapping the sister of R&B diva, Aisha.

Benjamin King
Benjamin King is the founder of the Vice Kings. King formed the VK's in order to protect the Projects District from Los Carnales[reference?]. King is a childhood friend of Julius Little and remarks that Julius is following in King's path, even to the point of recycling King's old rally speeches. Benjamin King formed a financial empire with Kingdom Come Records serving as the crown jewel.

Warren Williams
Warren Williams is the Chief Operating Officer of Kingdom Come Records, serves as second-in-command to Benjamin King, and also manages the illegal gambling side of the VK business portfolio. Warren is referred to by Johnny Gat as "the numbers guy". One of the stronghold missions suggests that the VK's supplement their income by rigging sporting events.

Anthony Green
Anthony "Big Tony" Green is the VK's enforcer. Tony is Tanya Winters' primary lover. He is loyal to Benjamin King to a fault, and he appears to be the only VK member that King openly respects.

Tanya Winters
Tanya Winters is a VK lieutenant, her primary responsibility is managing the VK brothel located in Prawn Court. The spark that ignites the conflict between the VK's and the Saints arguably is Tanya's unwitting abduction of the younger sister of R&B diva, Aisha, to serve in her brothel.

Levar
Levar is a member of the Vice Kings who is killed by Los Carnales members doing a Drive-by, shortly after he sprayed over a Westside Rollerz Gang Tag Had he not sprayed over the Gang Tag, The Protagonist would not have been caught in the resulting crossfire and may never have joined the Saints.

Los Carnales:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Los Carnales (The Brothers) are the stereotypical Latin-American gang, drawing parallels to Latino gangster archaetypes found in movies such as Training Day or Scarface. According to events in the game,[which events?] Los Carnales are the oldest gang in Stilwater and has been controlled by the members of Lopez family for decades.
It is suggested that Benjamin King originally formed the Vice Kings to counter the advances of Los Carnales into the northern sections of Stilwater, especially his hometown Sunnyvale Gardens, much like how Julius Little forms the Saints to keep the other gangs out of the Row. There is a running gag where the Saints calls them "The" Los Carnales, which Dex constantly corrects as "Los" is Spanish for "The".

Hector Lopez
Hector Lopez is El Jefe of Los Carnales. Hector runs Los Carnales with an iron fist and depends on the influx of money generated from serving as Stilwater's primary distributor of narcotics to solidify his power base.

Angelo Lopez
Angelo Lopez is Hector's younger brother and is co-leader of Los Carnales in name only, since it is readily apparent that Hector calls all of the shots. Angelo comes complete with all of the stereotypical Hispanic male character traits including an over-abundance of machismo and a temper that rivals Johnny Gat's.

Victor Rodriguez
Victor Rodriguez is an enforcer for Los Carnales. Victor's physical toughness is the stuff of urban legend. He is said to have survived over a dozen attempts on his life and his survival of a point-blank gunshot in one cutscene is not only a testament to his physical resilience, but also suggests that his trademark black leather zippered vest is probably lined with kevlar. He only speaks Spanish through the entire game.

Luz Avalos
Luz Avalos is the materialistic girlfriend of Angelo Lopez. A running joke in the game is that she has an obsession when it comes to shoes. Luz drives a red Eiswolf, with the Los Carnales symbol as a hood ornament.

Manuel Orejuela
Manuel Orejuela is a representative of a Colombian drug cartel. Even though he is not a Los Carnales member, they are the only gang in Stilwater that he works with. He seems to have a soft spot for Luz Avalos and takes advantage of Angelo's difficulty in dealing with the Saints to make his move on her.

Westside Rollerz
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Westside Rollerz
Sharp, Price and Donnie
The Westside Rollerz consist of a cadre of street racers and tuners that supplement their illegal hobbies through dealing in stolen auto parts that they acquire by preying on truck shipments travelling through Stilwater.

Joseph Price
Joseph Price is the field commander of the Westside Rollerz. He is a skilled driver and commands the respect of all of his subordinates.

William Sharp
William Sharp is the uncle of Westside Rollerz leader Joseph Price. Sharp provides financial support to the Westside Rollerz through his law firm and is the true mastermind of their plans.

Donnie
Donnie is the Rollerz chief mechanic and operates a shop in Stilwater's Apartments District. Donnie and Joseph Price appear to be best friends and Price is very protective of Donnie, even shielding Donnie from the insults of Joseph's uncle, William Sharp. Donnie seems to shy away from the more violent activities that the Rollerz take part in, preferring to guarantee that the Rollerz fleet of high-performance street machines are always in tip-top condition

Saint's Row 2

Developer(s) Volition, Inc. CD Projekt
Platform(s) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows
Genre(s) Action-adventure
Mode(s) Single-player, multiplayer

Gameplay:
Saints Row 2 is an action-adventure video game set in an open world environment, offering the player a large open environment in which to move around. The player's character is capable of maneuvering through the environment, utilizing weaponry and engaging in melee combat warfare. After successfully completing the first game mission, the player is able to explore the environment and choose how they wish to play the game. Missions are unlocked by earning 'respect' points from minigames and side-missions and although completing missions is necessary for game progression, players can complete them at their own leisure. The player is granted the option of instantly retrying the missions should they fail an attempt. Numerous checkpoints save progress in each mission, and missions can be replayed from locations within the environment. Aside from attempting missions, the player can explore the environment, purchase items at shops and participate in the aforementioned mini-games and side-missions. [unreliable source?] The player can also wreak havoc upon the environment which can provoke potentially fatal attention from authoritative forces. The player can recruit members from a friendly gang and use a mobile phone to contact friends and/or businesses, as well as to input cheat codes. Entering cheats will disable Xbox 360 achievements.

Players drive vehicles that are stolen, bought or unlocked. Aside from automobiles, players can use boats and water craft, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and[18] motorcycles. A cruise control system can be activated while using land or sea vehicles. Way points can be placed on the pause-screen map, leaving a GPS route between the player character's location and the set destination. Players can hail taxicab services and pay a fee to quickly navigate the city. By taking land vehicles to chop shops, players can apply paint schemes, body mods, hydraulics and nitrous oxide.

Players create their own character through a system that allows them to modify gender, ethnicity, fitness, voice, face and hairstyle. Walk and fighting styles, and personality traits can be assigned. Players purchase clothes, tattoos and piercings, and set outfits can be bought or created and saved to the player character's wardrobe. "Cribs" (safe houses) allow players to withdraw earnings, change outfits, replay missions and save the game. Cribs can be customized by applying themes and purchasing objects like TVs and pool tables. Boats and fixed-wing aircraft can be stored at purchased docks and hangars. Players select the outfits, vehicles, gestures and graffiti styles used by street members of the Third Street Saints.

The combat systems from Saints Row have been updated but many of the basics remain unchanged. While engaging in melee-based combat, the player character will perform combos and charge up attacks, and can execute a finishing move if three consecutive hits are dealt. With a gun equipped, the player can perform a groin attack, and can zoom in for a finer aim reticle. The player can also employ the use of human shields, and can use makeshift weapons pulled from the environment e.g. fire hydrants, cement blocks. Should the player either commit illegal activities or incite rival gang members, they will provoke potentially fatal attention from authoritative figures or rival gangs. The notoriety bar is a visual representation of the proactivity of the opposing figures' response and continual inciting of these groups will bring about a more powerful response, such as SWAT teams from the police. The player will continue to be chased by these groups until captured or killed and must reduce the notoriety bar by either hiding from the police or gang and wait for it to "cool off", or by seeking out a drive-through confessional which will clear the notoriety bar for a small fee. Should the player character be apprehended or killed, a small percentage of the player's earnings will be removed and the player will respawn at law or healthcare institutions. The game contains over forty different weapons, many of which have been recycled from Saints Row. The game allows the player to utilise new weapon types, examples of which include satchel charges, laser-guided rocket launchers, chainsaws and more. The player has the ability to dual wield handguns and submachine guns. Weaponry can be purchased by the player from specific stores or unlocked throughout in-game progress.

Open world:
Players navigate the open world, fictional city of Stilwater. The city consists of forty-five neighborhoods divided between twenty districts. It is expanded from Saints Row's version of Stilwater, roughly one-and-a-half times as big and featuring new districts such as the prison, nuclear power plant, and expanded airport among others. Game developers stated that the city has very much been redeveloped and each individual neighborhood has been touched up in one way or another. According to the storyline, the in-game corporation Ultor spent more than three-hundred million dollars redeveloping the city, funding the police force and, as it states, turning the "once crime-ridden third-tier city" into an "urban utopia". The Saints Row district is a more notable change within the city, having been completely redesigned and serving as the location of Ultor's headquarters; a towering skyscraper referred to as the Phillips Building. Many old districts from the earlier revision of Stilwater have also seen changes. Examples include the expansion taken place on the Suburbs district, which is double the size of its depiction in Saints Row and the Museum district, which features the Eramenos Ancient Greek museum exhibit, complete with models of the Acropolis of Athens and Theatre of Dionysus. There are also several completely new districts, such as the Marina and the University.

From the beginning of the game, the map of Stilwater is fully visible. However, shops and activities will simply be displayed as a question mark until the player discovers them. By completing missions and wiping out enemy strongholds the player gains control of the various neighborhoods the city is split into. There are over 130 interiors within the city, and hidden events can be triggered by some, including over ninety shops which can be purchased when the player controls each shops' associated territory. The player gets a 10% discount at owned stores and buying an entire chain of departments will mean that the protagonist's face appears on in-game billboard advertisements. The game shares technology with that of Red Faction: Guerrilla, another Volition-developed game and so certain elements of the environment are fully destructible. A number of Easter eggs are placed within the sandbox, including the pop-out Easter Bunny which won "Top Easter Egg of 2008".

Respect System:
The Respect system is a scoring system where the player earns Respect points to unlock missions and progress through the storyline. The player can partake in storyline and stronghold missions only after filling up at least one bar of Respect, and Respect points are removed when the player starts a mission. The 'style rank' is a modifier of how much Respect the player can earn; this is increased by purchasing items for the player character. Respect points can be earned in two ways; by progressing through side-missions called Activities and by completing mini-games and stunts called Diversions.

There are a broad range of Activities and Diversions available for the player to progress through. Many of the game's Activities made appearance in Saints Row and a variety of new Activities have also been introduced in the game. Examples include an underground fight club, a parody of the Cops television show known as FUZZ and numerous others. Each Activity can be initiated from various locations and plays out over six levels of increasing difficulty. The Activities have been designed to suit solo and co-operative play Most Diversions do not have specific start points. There are numerous Diversions playable in the game, such as acts of indecent exposure, combat and driving stunts, car surfing and a survival horror minigame called Zombie Uprising.

Multiplayer:
Saints Row 2 has various multiplayer components implemented throughout the game. Through an online network or through System Linking, the player can progress through the game with a cooperative partner. While in co-op mode, both players can explore the city and progress through the game's storyline missions and minigames. Both players are rewarded and credited for completion of such activities, and the players can furthermore play against each other in competitive metagames. The co-op mode is "drop-in/drop-out" and there is no limit as to how far the players can be away from each other.

The game contains competitive multiplayer modes, supporting between four and twelve players in a match. There are two standard deathmatch modes; the free-for-all "Gangsta Brawl" mode and its team-based variant, "Team Gangsta Brawl". Another mode, known as "Strong Arm", puts two teams against each other fighting for control over the neighborhood. In "Strong Arm", the first team to earn $100,000 dollars wins and money is earned by competing head-to-head in activities, controlling "tag spots" which serve as bonus modifiers or by eliminating members of the opposing team. While in a party, players are free to roam around a lobby. The player can rank up in multiplayer and displays this by earning various "badges" which are displayed next to the player's name By ranking up, the player can unlock more expensive clothing for their multiplayer character.

Plot:
Saints Row 2 takes place five years after the ending of the first game, which saw the player's character, the recently promoted boss of the Third Street Saints - caught in the explosion that destroyed Alderman Richard Hughes' yacht. With the Boss comatose the Saints have dissolved and three new gangs - the Brotherhood, the Sons of Samedi, and the Ronin - have filled the resulting power vacuum, and the Ultor corporation has gentrified the downtown district the Saints were based in. The game begins with the Boss waking up in prison and promptly escaping with the help of another inmate, Carlos Mendoza. Upon arriving in Stilwater the Boss frees the old Saints' enforcer and mass murderer Johnny Gat, sets up a new headquarters for the resurrected Saints gang, and recruits Carlos and two other new lieutenants - Pierce and Shaundi - to plan how to retake Stilwater.

The Brotherhood, a group of tattoo artists and monster truckers' leader, Maero, initially offers to make a truce with the Saints. However, with the Saints weakened and a shipment of weapons coming in for his own gang, he has no interest in treating the Saints as equals and gives them a deal of 20-80. The Saints, offended by the offer, start a gang war. The Saints decide to replace Maero's tatoo ink with nuclear waste, disfiguring him. In retaliation, Carlos is kidnapped and dragged through the street, tied to the back of a truck. By the time the Boss rescues him, Carlos' injuries are too severe and the Boss is forced to kill him out of mercy. The Saints then kidnap Maero's girlfriend and puts her in the trunk of a car in a monster truck arena. Maero, not knowing his girlfriend was in the car, rides over her in his truck, crushing the car and his girlfriend. After exiting the truck, The Boss hands him the keys to the trunk and walks away. Much of the Brotherhood is then arrested in a police crackdown. Maero threatens Dane Vogel, the Ultor executive handling the company's business in Stilwater, to release his imprisoned allies, only for the Boss to kill them before they reach Stilwater's streets. Vogel then attempts to seize the weapon shipment from the Brotherhood, only for the Saints to snatch it from both of them. Now heavily armed, the Saints destroy the Brotherhood's dockside headquarters and the Boss kills Maero in a demolition derby.

To eliminate the Sons of Samedi, a group of Caribbean drugs dealers, the Boss works with Shaundi to take over the trade of their trademark designer drug "Loa Dust," killing the Samedi's dealers and destroying their drug-manufacturing infrastructure. Shaundi's ex-boyfriend, DJ Veteran Child, kidnaps her, but she is rescued by the Saints. Afterwards, a limousine belonging to the leader of the Samedi pulls up to the Boss, and he enters the vehicle. He is then drugged and ends up in a car crash. After destroying an inbound shipment of Loa Dust the Boss sets out to kill the Samedi's leadership. First the boss kills the gang's voodoo[disambiguation needed]-using second-in-command, Mr. Sunshine, at his hideout. Then, after Shaundi hacks Stilwater's CCTV system, the Boss ambushes the convoy of the gang's leader, The General, and kills him in a car chase in an in-door mall.

The Boss, with Johnny Gat and Pierce, attacks the Ronin by robbing a casino they and the Ultor Corporation share ownership in. Incensed by this, Kazuo Akuji, the father of the Ronin's leader Shogo Akuji, travels to Stilwater himself to take control of the situation. Shogo attempts to recover the stolen cash by having his second-in-command, Jyunichi, kidnap Gat's girlfriend Aisha; this ends with Aisha dead and Gat incapacitated after being stabbed by Jyunichi. The Boss subsequently kills Jyunichi in revenge. By the time Gat recovers Kazuo Akuji has broken the Ronin's connections with Ultor; Vogel reacts by giving the Saints the location of the Ronin's headquarters, with the Boss and Gat destroy. Disgraced, Shogo dies trying to kill the Boss and Johnny Gat at Aisha's funeral. Kazuo continues to attack the Saints, and is killed in a duel with the Boss during Stilwater's Chinese Heritage Festival.

As the Saints take over Stilwater, Vogel plots to wipe them out so he can renovate their new base in the district of Shivington. Once the Saints are the only gang left in Stilwater, Ultor's private security force attemtps to take them out as well, but fails. Under pressure from Ultor's board of directors as the company is targeted by the Saints, Vogel leaks their location to the Boss; the Boss kills them and Vogel takes over as chairman of the board. At the press conference where he announces his takeover, however, Vogel is targeted by the Saints in an assassination attempt. He escapes to Ultor's headquarters, only for the Boss to track him down and personally kill him, leaving no one to challenge the Saints' for control of Stilwater.

At any point in the story after rescuing Johnny Gat, the player can unlock a secret mission by visiting the Stilwater Police HQ and listening to wiretap conversations that reveal former Saints' leader Julius Little planted the bomb on Hughes' yacht, hoping to kill the Boss and let the Saints dissolve in peace. The Boss also find the phone number of another former Saints lieutenant turned Ultor executive, Dex, who offers to meet with the Boss at the old Saints Row church. When the Boss arrives they instead find Julius and realize they were set up for an assassination attempt by Dex. After they both escape from Ultor's Masako hit team, the Boss shoots Julius. Before the Boss finishes him off, Julius berates the Boss for allowing the Saints to become as destructive as the gangs they were originally supposed to be fighting. Enthralled with their new power, the Boss is unmoved by his words.

Eric Gryphon, the new CEO of the Ultor Corporation, met with Pierce to request aid from the 3rd Street Saints against Dex, whom he feared might have made an attempt on his life. The Protagonist agreed to lend aid, and after having successfully protected Gryphon's limo from attacking Masako, Gryphon enlightened The Protagonist of a load of toxic waste that Dex was going to sell. The Protagonist, along with some help from Ultor cops, destroyed the toxic waste, causing Dex to flee Stilwater. Seeing no other way to get Dex, The Protagonist asked Gryphon to point out several people Dex was close to, after which he killed each of them. The Protagonist swore to Gryphon that he would find Dex and kill him.

Saint's Row 3
Developer(s) Volition
Publisher(s) THQ
Genre(s) Action-adventure, open world
Mode(s) Single-player, cooperative

Saints Row: The Third is a 2011 open world action-adventure video game developed by Volition and published by THQ. It is the third title in the Saints Row series. As in the previous games, the player-character leads the Third Streets Saints gang in a turf war against three rival gangs using a variety of weapons and vehicles in single-player and cooperative play. The series, and especially this title, is known for its crazy scenarios and lighthearted gameplay. It was released on November 15, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and later abroad.

Game development began by late 2008. There was high staff turnover from the previous Saints Row team with one-fifth of the final 100-person staff having worked on a previous title in the series. They aimed to improve on the series by giving the game a coherent tone, and found it in films such as Hot Fuzz and the game's signature sex toy bat. Saints Row: The Third was built in the Havok physics engine.

The game received "generally favorable" reviews, according to video game review score aggregator Metacritic. Reviewers noted its general zaniness and praised its customization options, while some felt its ironic sexism as somewhat misogynistic. Critics thought the setting was insipid and that its humor occasionally fell flat, and others thought the game perfected the Saints Row formula. It was a nominee for Best Narrative at the 2012 Game Developers Conference, an IGN Editor's Choice, and a recipient of perfect scores from GamesRadar and G4. A complete edition including the three downloadable content packs was released a year after the original release, and its planned Enter the Dominatrix expansion became the game's sequel, Saints Row IV.

Gameplay:
Saints Row: The Third is an action-adventure game played from the third-person perspective in an open world such that players explore an unrestricted environment. Similar to the premise of the previous Saints Row games, the player's goal is to lead the Third Street Saints gang to overtake its rival gangs in the city turf war. While the protagonist is the same the game introduces a new setting, the city of Steelport, with its new gangs: the Morningstar, Luchadores, and Deckers, together known as the Syndicate Once The Syndicate is defeated, the government's Special Tactical Anti-Gang unit (STAG) is summoned to quell the Saints. The Third is the first in the series to intertwine the narratives of its three-gang structures, and also presents the player with story-altering decisions.

The series has historically been considered a clone of Grand Theft Auto that later positioned itself as more "gleefully silly" in comparison In combat, players select weapons from a weapon selection wheel, including regular pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers alongside special weapons such as UAV drones and a fart-in-a-jar stun grenade. Player melee attacks include running attacks such as DDTs and a purple dildo bat. Players may use vehicles to navigate the city, including a hover jet (known as the F-69 VTOL) and a pixelated retrogame tank that are unlocked through story missions. Once special vehicles are unlocked, they are in unlimited supply and can be delivered directly to the player-character's location. Player actions are intensified with what Volition calls the "awesome button", where for example the player will divekick through the windshield into the driver's seat of a car. The main story campaign missions can be played alone, or cooperatively either online or via System Link offline. Some elements are added to the campaign for the second player. There is no competitive multiplayer, but a "wave-based survival mode" called Whored Mode that supports up to two players.

Players customize their characters after the introductory mission. Player-character bodies, dress, and vehicles can be customized, as well as home properties. Players can additionally share their character designs in a Saints Row online community Apart from the main story missions, there are optional diversions to make money and earn reputation, such as Insurance Fraud, where players hurt themselves in traffic to maximize self-injury before a timer expires, or Mayhem, where players maximize property destruction before a time expires. Some of these diversions were introduced in previous Saints Row games. Activities serve the plot and are positioned as training the player-character or damaging the Syndicate. They can also be repeated. Outside of structured diversions, players are free to make their own fun by purchasing property, shopping for items, finding hidden sex doll and money cache collectibles, and wreaking unsolicited havoc. There are also "flashpoint" gang operations that grant respect when disrupted. Attacking others increases the player's notoriety level, as depicted with stars.

Saints Row: The Third introduced experience levels and weapon upgrades to the series. Most actions in the game come with incentives in the form of money and respect (reputation). Money buys land, weapons, and other upgrades and respect is a kind of experience point that can unlock player abilities like "no damage from falling" or "infinite sprint", as well as upgrades to the player's computer-controlled gang member support. In turn, players receive further incentive to nearly miss car collisions, streak naked through the streets, shoot others in the groin, blow up Smart cars, and kill mascots in ambient challenges to earn more respect. Lack of respect does not hinder story progress, as it has in previous games. Player progress and unlocks are managed by an in-game cell phone menu that also lets the player call for vehicle deliveries and non-player character backup. The computer-controlled support will also dialogue with each other.

Plot:
Two years after the Ultor Corporation's destruction, the 3rd Street Saints have turned their street gang into a media empire, becoming icons and household names across the world, with their own energy drink, Japanese commercials, toys, a large fanbase, and a movie deal in the works. However, when the Saints' leader (usually referred to simply as "the Boss") and two lieutenants, Shaundi and Johnny Gat, attempt to rob a bank as a publicity stunt, the bank tellers unexpectedly start shooting back. The police, who they had paid off beforehand subsequently intervene and arrest the Saints.

The Saints' leaders are shortly released to the man who owned the targeted bank, Phillipe Loren, the leader of a criminal organization known as "the Syndicate;" on his private jet, Loren offers to let the Saints live if they turn over most of their earnings. The Saints' leaders refuse and break out, but Gat is apparently killed[i] as the Boss and Shaundi escape via parachute.

Upon landing, the Boss and Shaundi find themselves in Steelport, the dystopian criminal city controlled by the Syndicate's three gangs: The Morning Star, a gang with advanced technology equipment, controlled by Loren himself, the Luchadores, a Mexican gang led by the killer wrestler Killbane, and the Deckers, a hacker-based gang led by Matt Miller. The Boss quickly calls in another lieutenant from the Saints' hometown of Stilwater, Pierce Washington, and begins attacking the Morning Star's businesses, culminating with an attack on Loren's headquarters. In this raid Loren is killed and the giant superhuman Oleg Kirlov, the basis of the cloned "brutes" the Syndicate uses, is rescued.

The Boss briefly returns to Stilwater for Johnny Gat's funeral but while his hearse is held up at the reopening of the Hughes Memorial Bridge, overseen by Senator Monica Hughes, Killbane attacks the Saints and destroys the bridge. To retaliate, the Boss seeks out anti-Syndicate talent, recruiting Oleg as an enforcer, ex-FBI hacker Kinzie Kensington as an informant; Zimos, the oldest pimp in Steelport; and Angel de la Muerte, Killbane's vengeful former tag-team partner. They are later joined by Viola DeWynter, one of Loren's twin lieutenants, after Killbane kills her twin sister Kiki out of rage due to a failed assassination attempt on the Boss. Her defection, however, coincides with the arrival of the paramilitary S.T.A.G. (Special Tactical Anti-Gang) forces in Steelport, created by Senator Hughes to end gang violence once and for all. The Saints take on STAG regardless, resulting in Steelport going under martial law, whilst also dealing with the Syndicate.

After providing Kinzie with the appropriate technology, the Boss enters the Deckers mainframe, defeating Deckers leader Matt Miller's avatar in a virtual reality fight and driving him and most of the Deckers out of town. At Angel's insistence, the Boss opts to take on Killbane by killing the other contestants in his Murderbrawl XXXI pay-per-view to gain entrance, and then, with Angel's help, defeating Killbane. Following his humiliating defeat, an enraged Killbane responds by instigating several attacks on the Saints and STAG throughout Steelport to cause chaos.

Whilst quelling the fighting between the Luchadores and STAG, the Boss is simultaneously informed that Killbane is escaping the city while STAG second-in-command Kia is holding Shaundi, Viola, and Mayor Burt Reynolds hostage at a Steelport monument rigged to blow to frame the Saints. If the Boss saves Shaundi and kills Kia, the Saints are held as heroes; the ending of the game subsequently shows the boss tracking Killbane down to Mars and killing him in what is ultimately revealed to be a scene from the Saints sci-fi film Gangstas in Space, which the Boss and several members are acting in. Saints Row IV follows this ending. Alternately, if the boss kills Killbane and lets Shaundi die, the monument's destruction is used as a pretext by STAG to attack Steelport with the airborne aircraft carrier Daedalus. The Boss destroys the Daedalus, killing STAG leader Cyrus Temple in the process, and declares Steelport an independent city-state under the Saints' control

Saint's Row IV
Developer(s) Volition
Publisher(s) Deep Silver, Spike Chunsoft
Genre(s) Action-adventure
Mode(s) Single-player, multiplayer

Saints Row IV is a 2013 open world action-adventure video game developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver. It was released in August 2013 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the fourth installment in the Saints Row series, after the release of Saints Row: The Third in 2011. As in previous titles in the series, the player controls the leader of the Third Street Saints, a street gang, who has now become the president of the United States.

The game takes place five years after the events of its predecessor, returning to the fictional city of Steelport, focusing on the Saints fighting an alien invasion as well as simulations of the gangs and enemies from their past.

Gameplay:
The game's plot sees invading aliens place the player into a computer-simulated version of Steelport early on, and the bulk of the game takes place within this simulation. The simulation has Steelport constantly cloaked in the darkness of night, with largely computer-themed twists on classic Saints Row elements. Objectives are often based around hacking the simulation in order to work towards escaping it.

Saints Row IV shares most of its gameplay aspects with the previous installment, being primarily played as a third-person shooter in an open world map scattered with campaign quests, secondary objectives, and various collectibles. The player can steal, drive, and customize vehicles, and purchase weapons and clothing.

In an element new to the series, the player can now purchase and upgrade "powers" that offer superhuman abilities akin to those seen in the Prototype video game series, which allow the player to leap up the sides of buildings, glide through the air, and fire several different paranormal projectiles, as examples.

Plot:
Shortly after the fall of STAG, Pierce, Shaundi and the Boss are called upon to assist MI-6 agent Asha Odekar and her contact, former Deckers leader Matt Miller, in infiltrating a Middle Eastern compound to assassinate Cyrus Temple, the former leader of STAG who has since gone insane and obsessed with killing the Saints leader when his plan to frame the explosion of a statue on the saints is ruined, and plans on destroying Washington, D.C. using a nuclear missile. The Boss manages to kill Cyrus, but is unable to stop him from launching the missile. Climbing aboard the missile, the Boss disarms the nuke in midair before it reaches Washington, earning the adoration of America.

Five years later, the Boss has been elected President of the United States, with several members of the Saints acting as cabinet. While preparing for a press conference, the Boss is told that Asha and Matt have arrived at the White House, which the Saints have renamed the White Crib, to warn them of what they suspect is an impending alien invasion. Just as the Boss is informed, the invasion begins, spearheaded by the alien warlord Zinyak, who captures all of the cabinet members as well as the Boss.

The Boss wakes up in what appears to be a 50s sitcom set in the city of Steelport, devoid of violence or foul language. The Saints' computer hacking specialist, Kinzie Kensington, contacts the Boss and informs them that they are trapped inside a simulation, and that each of the Zin's prisoners are trapped in personal simulations of their own fears in order to break their will, as the Boss fears a world of utter conformity. With Kinzie's help, the Boss breaks free of the simulation and joins Kinzie and Vice President Keith David in a stolen Zin ship. While the trio attempt to contact reinforcements from Earth, Zinyak atomizes the planet, killing everyone not already captured by the Zin. Determined to get revenge for Earth, the Boss returns to the Steelport simulation, hoping to use it to find the remaining Saints and somehow reach Zinyak. The Boss begins to go into the other Saint's simulations in order to rescue them, revealing each of their own fears including Matt's fear of being trapped in the cyberworld and Killbane coming after him, Shaundi's fear of her former calm and fun-loving self, Pierce's fear of the Saint's image turning on him, Benjamin King's fear of his former gang the Vice Kings, and Asha's fear of failing an important mission.

As the simulation begins to weaken under the Saints' influence, Zinyak floods virtual Steelport with copies of gang members the Boss has faced in the past. Kinzie determines that the copies are being made from someone's memory, leading the Boss to conclude that Saints lieutenant Johnny Gat, who was thought dead, is still alive and trapped within the simulation. Despite protests from Kinzie and Matt that rescuing Johnny will reveal their location to Zinyak, the Saints make their way to where Johnny is being held, while taking note of how many people are being held on Zinyak's ship implying that there may still be hope for humanity. The Boss eventually frees Johnny's mind from his nightmare of Aisha's death that he had been trapped in and gets him back to the ship. Johnny explains that during the fight in which he was presumed killed, he was actually abducted by Zinyak years in advance of their invasion, as Zinyak had concluded that Johnny could have single-handedly stopped him if left on Earth.

The Saints rally inside the simulation in order to prepare to confront Zinyak, but they are ambushed by an enormous Zin force. As they escape, Kinzie is captured by Zinyak, and the Boss emerges from the simulation to find that Keith has knocked the other Saints out and fled, showing that he betrayed the Saints in irony that Keith David also played Julius in The original Saints Row game, betraying the Leader, who was just a member back then, but did all the heavy work. Returning to Steelport, the Boss finds Keith has been declared president of the simulation. When confronted, Keith claims that Zinyak has the means to restore Earth, which was a lie, and has agreed to do so in exchange for the Boss' life. The Boss, believing that Zinyak is lying, pursues Keith into his nightmare with the help of Roddy Piper, who is ultimately unable to bring himself to kill his friend and rejoins the Saints, barely able to tell them where Kinzie has been taken to.

After the Boss rescues Kinzie from her nightmare, she devises a plan to crash the simulation, which will force the Zin to draw power from their ship to keep it running, thus weakening the ship itself and creating an opening for the Saints to enter. Working together, the remaining Saints manage to take control of the simulation and overload it, shutting it down just as the Boss escapes. The Boss leads an assault on Zinyak's ship, confronting him in his throne room. While the entire Zin Empire watches, Zinyak and the Boss battle each other, and with help from the Saints, the Boss kills Zinyak by tearing off his head and emerges victorious. Impressed, the Zin forces surrender to the Boss, who becomes the new head of the Zin Empire.

The Boss asks Zinjai, one of Zinyak's servants if they truly have the technology to bring Earth back. Zinjai answers saying that they can not simply bring back Earth because of it being atomized, but mentions that the Zin have time-travel technology, which would allow the Saints to go back in time before Earth was destroyed. With the intention of using this technology to prevent the Zin's invasion of Earth,[note 1] the Boss looks at the Saints and says, "Let's go on a field trip."

As the credits roll, there is a curtain call set to Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It". In a post-credits scene, Zinjai shows the Boss the many humans in stasis that Zinyak had collected from across history, one of them being the nineteenth century writer, Jane Austen. Being a fan of Austen, the Boss wakes her out of stasis, revealing that she had been the narrator throughout the game.

There is also a non-canonical "bad ending" that plays out should the player not complete all of the loyalty missions. In this ending after the Zin forces surrender to the Boss, the Saints make their plans to take over more planets, unaware of their ability to meet Austen or return to Earth.

All the guns for each game

Awesome thread, I played them all beat 'em all and this thread just makes me remember the good and the bad.

The good being 1/2 and the bad in my opinion being 3/4 when it kinda left the gangster scene. This is great though.

Saints Row 1 will always be my favorite. Protect the Pimp was the shiz. The only thing was the "Stand-Byers" i believe they were called. They would somehow cheat the game into making them play while they were dead. You would just see dead bodies moving around killing people.

THE MEMORIES ARE TOO STRONG!
