NPC wrote I'd do a system restore if you can. Restore it to a date when your computer was normal.

But I don't have anything to back it up on and I need the files!

Google what the boot settings should be and copy them down and it should be back to normal if not turn everything back on and if that doesnt work call a local computer shop or system restore

You're best bet would be a restore, or you can mess around with the task manager. Try starting explorer.exe

Restart your PC and as soon as the fans kick back on keep pressing "F8" until you enter the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the "safe mode" option and press enter. If it boots up and it looks like it would normally, restart your PC again, this time let it boot up as usual and it should be back to normal. If it isn't there may be settings you need to revert back to default that got messed up. It could also be a low power option that you activated that disabled Windows Aero theme, which makes it look like Windows 98.
