So I saw Lemon_ doing color restorations and it reminded me of some work I used to do about a year ago so I wanted to show some of the work I did. I unfortunately deleted the folder with all the work in it so I decided to make some more and make a small tut. These are very fun time killers and skill training teaching you brushing, blend modes, and color correcting.

First the two pieces I colorized.

I'm a little rusty but now on to the tutorial.

1. Open up your BW or Sepia image in PS.
2. Create a new layer. Pick a skin color with the brush tool.
3. Brush over any skin with a soft brush, it's okay to brush over lips or eyes but try to stay within the lines of the skin. You can always erase.
4. Set the layer blending mode to "Soft Light".
5. If the color looks off, add a Hue/Saturation layer and make it a clipping mask to that layer and play with the hues and stuff. Opacity if you want. Remember these are supposed to be old images so flat colors are not a bad thing, don't go overboard.
6. Create a new layer and pick the next thing to color.
7. After I finish the coloring I add some brightness/contrast, and curves over all the layers.
8. Make a New Layer then go to Layer>Apply Image.
9. Go to Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen. Mess with that to get more detail but don't go overboard.

That's basically it. It's pretty simple and fun. and The great thing about it is that shading is already there with this method. You're just coloring.

That is awesome, I used to love doing this.
I do think the Cary Grant image looks a little too washed out

Cracking job though
