Game Information
Name: Smash Hit
Genre: Strategy
Release Date: March 6th, 2014
Developers: Mediocre AB
Publishers: Mediocre AB
Platform(s): iOS

Synopsis

Take a surreal journey through an otherworldly dimension, move in harmony with sound and music and smash everything in your path! This experience requires focus, concentration, and timing to not only travel as far as you can, but also break the beautiful glass objects that stand in your way.

Gameplay

Smash Hit is quite a simple but entertaining game. It requires you to smash glass objects as you are taken on a ride through a wonderful endless maze of glass. To begin, you start with a certain amount of balls, these are used to throw at the glass objects to gain points. You'll find out very quickly that you will run out of ammunition. To overcome this, you can aim your glass balls to target pyramid-looking glass shapes throughout the game, this will restore 3 balls to your limit. Although the game sounds and looks incredibly easy, you will find that as you progress it will become more difficult to keep going without running out of ammunition. This requires you to focus and use accuracy and timing with your shots. As you progress, you will be offered with power-ups, these allow you to shoot an invincible amount of balls for a short period of time, this is fantastic for situations when you're surrounded by glass and need to get past them. Along with this, every 10 successful shots at glass crystals (pyramids) will let you fire 2 balls at once, this is quite a nice feature to add to the game. The further you progress, your surroundings change, they become more difficult and fast paced, requiring you to keep focussed to get past. Glass objects start to swing and sway, coming at you or travelling away, the glass crystals begin to move up and down on platforms adding increased difficulty in order to successfully hit them. The gameplay can get a little repetitive after a while, but the graphics are quite outstanding and will keep you entertained for a while.

Graphics

The graphics in Smash Hit are incredible for a app. The glass objects look beautiful throughout the game, everything has a fantastic look, including reflections. When the glass is broken, it looks outstanding, you can see parts of it breaking off and flying away creating a amazing atmosphere. The progression of the map throughout the game looks very nice and makes the overall feel of the game great. Although the game is optimised for devices supporting apps, it still has a fantastic appearance to the eye. The look grasps your attention and brings you in to keep on playing, the feel of breaking glass objects in your way, with the shattering of it are phenomenal and add such a great finish to the game. The interface looks great and ties in well with the overall feel and look of the game.

Controls

The controls of Smash Hit are incredibly simple, the only thing you are required to do is to tap where you want the ball to shoot. You have to keep in mind that physics and gravity apply in the game - meaning if you shoot the ball directly at the object you wish to smash, it will fall short to over the object. This means that you have to actually take into account the distance and where you have to aim the ball in order for it to hit the target. With the controls being so simple, it adds a great feeling to the game. You have only one thing to worry about pressing, nothing else. This also allows new people to the game to catch on incredibly quickly and enjoy playing the game. Overall the simplicity helps you focus on the game and how you have to position your aim.
