An access point is a device used to wirelessly connect to the network.
A wireless router is a device that functions as a router and access point.
You must use a router if you want to connect the PS4 system and other devices to a single Internet connection at the same time.

Turning on and off the power


Turning on the power

The following methods are available to turn on the PS4 system. When the power turns on, the power indicator blinks in blue, and then lights up in white.

Touch the power button.
Press the PS button on a controller for which device registration (pairing) is complete.




Turning off the power

Caution:
  • Only disconnect the plug of the AC power cord from the electrical outlet when the power indicator is turned off. If you disconnect it while the power indicator is lit or blinking, data might be lost or corrupted, and the system might be damaged.
    Entering standby mode


When the system is in standby mode, the screen is turned off. You can set the system to perform actions such as download files, or charge the controller from a USB port.
The following methods are available for entering standby mode. When the system enters standby mode, the screen turns off, the power indicator blinks in white, and then the power indicator lights up in orange.

Select (Power button) from the function screen, and then select [Enter Standby Mode].
Press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second, and then select [Enter Standby Mode] on the screen that is displayed.
Touch the power button for at least 1 second (until the system beeps).
If there are no checkmarks set in the settings under (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode], the system turns off completely.

To exit standby mode, use a method from "Turning on the power".

To adjust functions available in standby mode, select (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode].




Turning off the power completely

The following methods are available to turn off the PS4 system. When the system turns off completely, the screen turns off, the power indicator blinks in white, and then the power indicator turns off.

Select (Power) from the function screen, and then select [Turn Off PS4].
Press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second, and then select [Turn Off PS4] on the screen that is displayed.
Touch the power button for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).

With the default settings, when your system has not been operated for a certain period of time it will automatically enter standby mode or turn off. If an application is active, such as when a video is playing, the system might not automatically enter standby mode or turn off. To change the setting, select (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Time Until PS4 Turns Off] from the function screen, and then select [Media Playback] or [General (Games)].
When you turn off the power or put the system into standby mode, all users are logged out.





Viewing the screen

Home screen

There are 3 areas of the home screen.

A ) Function area/Function screen
New notifications, the number of your Friends who are online, and other items are displayed. When you press the up button, the function screen is displayed.

B ) Content area
The content that you started is listed in most recent order from left to right.
C ) Content info area/Content info screen
The latest information for the selected content is displayed. When you press the down button, the content info screen is displayed, and you can view more information.

  • Items displayed vary depending on the content.
  • Some items might not be displayed depending on the content.





Using the wireless controller

Press the PS button on the controller, and then select a user.

  • The first time you use the controller, you must perform device registration (pairing).
  • You can use up to 4 controllers at the same time. When you press the PS button, a color is assigned to the user and the light bar lights up. The color that is assigned to the user depends on the order in which the users press the PS button. The first user is blue, the second is red, the third is green, and the fourth is pink.





Registering (pairing) a device

The first time you use a controller or when you want to use the controller on another PS4 system, you must perform device registration (pairing). Connect the PS4 system and the controller with a USB cable when the PS4 system is turned on.

  • If you want to use 2 or more controllers, perform device registration for each controller.





Charging

When you connect the PS4 system and the controller with a USB cable, the controller's battery is charged. The PS4 system must be turned on or in standby mode. You can check the charge level of the battery on the screen that is displayed when you press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second.
While in standby mode, the light bar slowly blinks in orange. When charging is complete, the light bar turns off.

  • It takes approximately 2 hours to charge the controller when the battery has no remaining charge.
  • Charge the controller in an environment where the ambient temperature is between 10 C and 30 C (50 F and 86 F). You might not be able to efficiently charge the controller in other environments.
  • Even when not using the controller for a prolonged period of time, completely charge it once a year to keep it functioning.
  • Battery life varies depending on how you use the controller and the environment in which the controller is used and stored.
  • To charge while in standby mode, you must set a checkmark in (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode] > [Supply Power from USB Ports].

Basic touch operations

You can use the touch pad and the touch pad button to perform operations, depending on the content.

Changing settings

You can adjust settings for the vibration function and the speaker volume of the controller.
Select (Settings) from the function screen and then select [Devices] > [Controllers].

  • Audio such as chat audio or sound effects might be output from the speaker on the controller, depending on the game or application.
  • You can adjust the speaker volume by pressing and holding the PS button for at least 1 second, and then selecting [Adjust Devices] on the screen that is displayed.



Entering Characters

A keyboard appears when it is necessary to enter characters or when you select a text-entry field. Select the characters you want to enter using the directional buttons. When you finish entering text, press the R2 button to complete your entry and start the next process (when available), or press the "o" button to close the keyboard.
You can also use the controller's sensor to enter characters by selecting R3 + directional buttons (switch operation). Tilt the controller up, down, left, and right to select characters.

You can display predicted input text based on the text you enter, depending on the application.

  • The keys displayed vary depending on the language (keyboard) being used for text entry.
  • In some languages, some keys are not displayed.





Copying and pasting text
Copying

1. Place the cursor at the start of the text you want to copy and choose (options).
2. Choose [Select] or [Select All].
If you choose [Select], move the cursor to the end of the text you want to copy and then press the button.
3.Choose [Copy].

Pasting

1.Choose (options) at the location you want to paste to.
2.Choose [Paste].




Adding frequently used terms

You can add terms to the user dictionary for each language (keyboard), to be used for predictive text entry.

1. Place the cursor at the start of the term you want to add and choose (options).
2. Choose [Select] or [Select All].
If you choose [Select], move the cursor to the end of the term you want to add and then press the button.
3. Choose [Add Term].
4. Choose [OK].

  • You cannot add terms for some languages.
  • You can edit or delete terms under (Settings) > [Language] > [Input Languages] > [Keyboards and User Dictionary].





Logging in and logging out

A maximum of 4 people can log in to the PS4 system at the same time. When multiple users are logged in and a user presses the PS button on the controller, that user's home screen is displayed.




Logging in

The screen for selecting a user is displayed when you turn on the PS4 system or connect a controller. To log in, select a user and follow the screens.
When you select [New User], you can register a new user and log in, or log in as a guest.

  • When you connect a controller, a color is assigned to the user of the controller and the controller's light bar lights up. The color that is assigned to the user depends on the order in which the controller is connected. The first user is blue, the second is red, the third is green, and the fourth is pink.
  • You can automatically log in when you turn on the PS4 system. For details, see "Log In to PS4 Automatically".
  • You can also automatically log in by having the camera compare your face to your face data. If you set a checkmark in (Settings) > [Login Settings] > [Enable Face Recognition], the camera recognizes your face when you log in.
  • If you have not added your face data or if you want to create a new user, press the button on the controller corresponding to [Cancel] to exit the face recognition screen. Then log in by selecting a user or creating a new user.
  • You can set the passcode used when logging in. For details, see "Passcode Management".





Logging out

The following methods are available. To log out, you must use your own controller.

  • Select (Power) from the function screen, and then select [Log Out of PS4].
  • Press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second, and then select [Log Out of PS4] on the screen that is displayed.


  • When you turn off the power or put the system into standby mode, all users are logged out.






Activities

Your "activities" consist of information about things you do. This information is stored on the PSNSM server, and includes your purchase history at PlayStationStore, the trophies you have earned, your upload history for video clips and screenshots, and other details. You can view your activities and others' activities under [What's New], in the content info area, and on the profile screens for you and your Friends.

You can show that you like your Friends' activities by selecting (Like).

  • You can set which of your activities are viewable under (Privacy Settings) > [Activity Sharing] on your profile screen.
  • To delete one of your activities, select it, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete].
  • You can submit a grief report about certain activities if you think they are inappropriate. Select an activity, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Submit Grief Report].
  • If sub account users are restricted by parental controls, some activities are not displayed to those users.





Operating the system with your voice

You can use your voice to perform operations on the home screen and other areas. For voice input, use a headset (included) or the microphones on a PlayStationCamera.

1. Say "PlayStation".
The microphone icon and the operations that can be performed next are displayed. The microphone icon lights up in blue during voice recognition.

Choose the operation you want to perform from the items that are displayed, and then say it.

  • If you don't say an operation within 10 seconds or if you operate the system with the controller, the voice recognition feature is disabled.
  • On the home screen, you can enable and disable the voice recognition feature with the L2 button on the controller.
  • Even if you are playing a game, you can say "PlayStation" and then say one of the following commands to perform operations.
    - Home Screen
    - Take Screenshot
    - Log In
  • To use the voice recognition feature, you must set a checkmark in (Settings) > [System] > [Operate PS4 with Voice].
  • If a headset and a PlayStationCamera are both connected to the system, only the headset's microphone is enabled.
  • Depending on the system language, English might be the only language available for voice input.
  • If there is too much ambient noise, your voice might not be recognized.






Selecting another player

The following screen is displayed when you must select another player, such as when choosing a message recipient or someone to compare trophies with. Select an item from the left of the screen, and then select a player.

Connecting from a PS Vita system

You can connect to the PS4 system from a PS Vita system by using (PS4 Link) on the PS Vita system.
Use the PS Vita system to do this. For details, refer to the PS Vita system's user's guide.




Remote Play

The same screens from the PS4 system are displayed on the PS Vita system. You can use the PS Vita system as a controller when operating the PS4 system in front of a TV. You can also use it to control a PS4 system in a remote location.

  • You must set a checkmark in (Settings) > [PS Vita Connection Settings] > [Enable Remote Play].




Second Screen

When playing a game that supports the second screen feature on the PS4 system, information from the game is displayed on the PS Vita system.

  • This feature can also be used if PlayStationApp is installed on your smartphone or other device.





Limiting access for miners

If minors will be using the PS4 system, parents or guardians can restrict the playback of content or the use of the features as permitted by parental controls.
Sony Entertainment Network also provides sub accounts for users under a certain age. These should be used under supervision of the master account holder. For details, see "Sign In to PSN".

  • To prevent minors from logging in to the PS4 system using a master account, set a master account passcode. You can set the passcode under (Settings) > [Login Settings] > [Passcode Management].

Transferring or disposing of the PS4 system

Before replacing, transferring or disposing of your PS4 system, delete your Sony Entertainment Network account and other information from the PS4 system in advance by performing the following procedures. This helps to protect your personal information and helps to prevent its unauthorized use by third parties.




Backing up saved data for games

Copy saved data that is stored on your PS4 system to a USB storage device as necessary. You can copy saved data with (Settings) > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data in System Storage] > [Copy to USB Storage Device].

  • To use this feature, you must sign in to PSNSM.
  • If you subscribe to PlayStationPlus, you can upload saved data to online storage. For details, see "Subscribing to PlayStationPlus".





Deactivating a system

If you activated the system as your primary PS4 system, deactivate it before transferring or disposing of it. You cannot deactivate the system after you have transferred or disposed of it. Deactivate the system under (Settings) > [PSNSM] > [Activate as Your Primary PS4].

  • If multiple users have activated the system as their primary PS4 system, deactivate it for each user.





Initializing the PS4 system

During initialization, the PS4 system settings are restored to their defaults, and all users and their data saved on the PS4 system are deleted. Initialize the system under (Settings) > [Initialization] > [Initialize PS4] > [Full].

Notifications

When you receive a message or other new information, a notification message appears in the upper left corner of the screen. You can set whether to receive notifications by their type, such as those for trophies or invitations.
Notification alerts for all types are disabled when you remove the checkmark from [Notifications] > [Display Notifications].

System Storage Management

You can check the status of the following categories of items saved on the PS4 system and the amount of free space. Select [System Storage Management], and then select a category to view information about individual items.

  • To delete applications or captures, select the content you want to delete under [Applications] or [Captures], press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete].
  • To delete saved data, select [Application Saved Data] > [Saved Data in System Storage] > [Delete].





System Software Update

By updating the system software of the PS4 system, you can use various additional features and have enhanced security. Always update to the latest version.

When you select [System Software Update], the PS4 system automatically checks over the Internet if you have the latest version of the system software. If there is an update file for a later version, it is downloaded to the system.
You can perform other actions while downloading. When downloading is complete, a notification message is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. Select the message under (Notifications) > [Downloads] from the function area, and then follow the screens to perform the installation.

  • Do not turn off the PS4 system during the installation. Interrupting the installation can cause the system to be damaged.
  • You might not be able to use some applications or content without updating the system software.
  • Update files might also be included on game discs. When you play a disc that contains a more recent version of the system software, a screen will be displayed to guide you through the update process. Follow the screens to perform the update.
  • You can also use an update file that is stored on a USB storage device to update the system software. For details, contact customer support in your country or region.

PlayStationApp Connection Settings

You can link to the PS4 system by using PlayStationApp, which you install on your smartphone or other device. You can download PlayStationApp from Google Play or the App Store.
You must register (pair) your smartphone or other device with the PS4 system before attempting to link it, by following the steps below.

1.Start PlayStationApp on your smartphone or other device.
2.Select [PlayStationApp Connection Settings] > [Add Device] on the PS4 system.
3.Enter the displayed number on your smartphone or other device.
When registration is complete, the device name appears under [Add Device].

  • You can register a maximum of 16 devices to a single PS4 system.
  • To delete a registered device, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete].

Games



About Games

You can play games on discs that contain PlayStation4 format software, and games downloaded from PlayStationStore. You can invite Friends to play with you while you are playing a game online, or send things such as game-related items. If you subscribe to PlayStationPlus, you can purchase specific content at special prices, play specific content for free for a predetermined period, and enjoy other benefits.

  • This model of the PS4 system is designed to play PlayStation4 format software.
  • If sub account users are restricted by parental controls, they cannot use the chat or messaging features with games.





Playing a game on a disk

Insert the disc, and then select the game from the content area.

  • After you have played a game for the first time it appears in the content area, even after you remove its disc. To delete a game, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete].





Returning to the home screen from a game

Press the PS button. You will return to the home screen without quitting the game. From there, you can do things such as start the Internet Browser or send messages.
Select the game from the content area to resume playing it.

  • You can adjust some settings without quitting the game, such as the controller and headphone volume and the audio that is output from headphones. Press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second, and then select [Adjust Devices] on the screen that is displayed.





Quitting a game

Press and hold the PS button, and then select [Close Application] on the screen that is displayed.




Playing a downloaded game

You can purchase games and game add-ons from PlayStationStore. You can also download free trial versions of the latest releases. PlayStationStore is the online store for PSNSM.
The basic operations are the same as those for a game on a disc. You can start playing some games without waiting for them to finish downloading. To download a game, follow these steps:

1. Select (PlayStationStore) from the function screen.
2. Select the content you want to download, and then select [Add to Cart].
3. Select [Proceed to Checkout], and then select [Confirm Purchase].
You must add funds to your wallet to purchase paid content. For details, see "Account Information".
4. Select [Download All].
Games that you download appear in the content area. When [Start] appears, you can start the game.

  • The buttons that appear and the required steps vary depending on the type of content.
  • PlayStationStore is only available in certain countries and regions, and in certain languages. Also, the types of content and services that are provided vary depending on the country or region of residence. For details, contact customer support in your country or region.
  • You can also check the progress of downloads under (Notifications) > [Downloads].
  • You can display a list of the content you can download by selecting (Library) from the content area.





Copying saved data

Saved data is stored on the PS4 system. You can copy the saved data using one of the following methods.

  • Upload to Online Storage.
  • Copy to USB Storage Device.

Sending and receiving game invitations and items

Sending

You can send game invitations and items in supported games to Friends or other players. Methods for sending vary depending on the game.




Receiving

A notification message appears in the upper left corner of the screen when you receive an invitation or item. To check what you received, select (Notifications) from the function screen, and then select [Invitations] or [Game Alerts].

  • Notifications about invitations and items are deleted from (Notifications) after 30 days.
  • You can open an invitation that you have just received by pressing the PS button while the notification message is displayed.
  • Some games require a PlayStationPlus subscription.
  • You can report inappropriate comments. Press the OPTIONS button on the details screen for received invitations or items, and then select [Submit Grief Report].






Viewing Trophies

You can earn trophies by accomplishing certain objectives in some games.

Grades of trophies

Trophies are categorized into 4 grades. Grades are based on factors such as the level of difficulty in earning the trophies. The number and grades of trophies, and the conditions for earning them, vary from game to game.

Trophy rarity

There are 4 levels of rarity for trophies. The rarity level depends on the percentage of players who have earned the same trophy. As the percentage of players who have earned the trophy decreases, the trophy rarity increases in this order: common, rare, very rare, ultra rare.




Viewing the trophies you have earned

Select (Trophies) from the function screen. Select a title to view details about the trophies you have earned for that title.

  • You can also view the trophies you have earned on your PS3 system or PS Vita system. To do this, sign in using an account linked with your PS3 system or PS Vita system.
  • Your earned trophies are saved to the PS4 system and automatically synchronized with the PSNSM server. You can also manually synchronize your trophies. Press the OPTIONS button from (Trophies), and then select [Sync Trophies with PSN].
  • You can set who can see your trophies. For details, see "Privacy Settings".
  • If multiple users are logged in to a single PS4 system and playing the same game when a trophy is earned, all of those users earn the trophy.
  • When you are logged in to the PS4 system as a guest, you must sign in to PSNSM to save your trophies.





Comparing trophies

Select (Compare Trophies), and then select the person you want to compare your trophies with.

To change whose trophies are compared with yours, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Change Player].




Subscribing to PlayStationPlus

PlayStationPlus is a subscription service package for PSNSM.
As a PlayStationPlus member, you can purchase specific content at special prices, automatically back up saved data for games to online storage, and enjoy other features. In some games, you can also use special features.
You can subscribe to PlayStationPlus by selecting (PlayStationStore) from the function screen, and then purchasing a PlayStationPlus subscription service membership. The subscription service membership is automatically renewed at the end of the subscription period. For details on making payments at (PlayStationStore), see "Account Information".

When the subscription process is complete, the (PlayStationPlus) icon appears on your profile screen. The icon also appears on features available exclusively for PlayStationPlus members, and on content from PlayStationStore.

Features offered by PlayStationPlus vary by country and region. For details, refer to the website for your country or region.
If you have an account with a PlayStationPlus subscription on your PS3 system or PS Vita system and you have linked that account to the PS4 system, you will automatically have that PlayStationPlus subscription on your PS4 system.
If a PS4 system is activated as your primary PS4 system, other users of that system will also have access to certain benefits. For details, see "Activate as Your Primary PS4".
To cancel automatic renewal of your PlayStationPlus subscription, select the service under (Settings) > [PSNSM] > [Account Information] > [Services List], and then select [Cancel Automatic Renewal].




Using online storage

You can store the saved data from games you have played on your PS4 system to the PSNSM server. You can also download the saved data from online storage to another PS4 system. For details, see "Saved Data in System Storage".




Using Automatic Downloads and Uploads features

You can automatically download or upload various kinds of data, such as update files for applications. The PS4 system must be turned on or in standby mode. For details, see "Automatic Downloads and Uploads"

About Share

You can upload and share screenshots and video clips of gameplay that are saved on the PS4 system by using online services. You can also broadcast (stream) your gameplay, and share information about things such as content from PlayStationStore.

  • Sub account users can save screenshots and video clips, but cannot upload or broadcast using online services.
  • The online services that can be used vary depending on country and region. For details, contact customer support in your country or region.
  • Screenshots, video clips, and broadcasts may include personal information of yours or other players, such as names, online IDs, text chat, and voice chat. You should have other players' permission before you share content containing their personal information.





Basic operation of the SHARE button

  • You can change how the SHARE button operates. Press the SHARE button, then press the OPTIONS button while the menu for the Share feature is displayed, and then select [Share Settings] > [SHARE Button Control Type].






Sharing a screenshot

You can take screenshots while playing a game or from the home screen. You can then upload these screenshots to an online service by using the SHARE button, or send them to Friends with (Messages).




Taking a screenshot

Press and hold the SHARE button for at least 1 second.

  • Depending on the content or the state of the system, it might not be possible to take a screenshot.
  • To check screenshots that you have taken, select [Profile] from the function screen, and then select (Captures).





Uploading a screenshot

1. Press the SHARE button, and then select [Upload Screenshot].
2. Select a screenshot.
3. Select an online service.
This screen is displayed only when there are multiple online services available.
4. Enter a comment, and then select [Share].

Sharing a video clip

Saving a video clip

Video of the most recent 15 minutes of gameplay is continuously and automatically recorded. When you press the SHARE button, that video is saved as a video clip.
For some games, there might be scenes in which video cannot be recorded. The maximum 15 minutes of gameplay that are saved as a video clip do not include scenes in which video cannot be recorded.

  • You can set whether notification icons will be displayed when scenes cannot be recorded, whether you want to include microphone audio when recording a video clip, and other options. Press the SHARE button, then press the OPTIONS button while the menu for the Share feature is displayed, and then select [Share Settings] > [Video Clip Settings].
  • For voice input, use a headset or the microphones on a PlayStationCamera.
  • To check saved video clips, select [Profile] from the function screen, and then select (Captures).


When you know the scene you want to save


Press the SHARE button twice at the start of the scene you want to save, and then press the SHARE button again at the end of the scene. A video clip can be saved with a maximum of the past 15 minutes of gameplay video. The 15 minutes are measured backward from the moment when you press the SHARE button to end the scene.




Uploading a video clip

1. Press the SHARE button, and then select [Upload Video Clip].
2. Select a video clip.
3. Edit the video clip
You can limit a video clip to a scene you like by trimming its start point and end point. Select [Edit]. You can also add comments, and if you link your account from Twitter, you can adjust settings for features such as posting a link to the broadcast.
4. Select [Share].

  • The first time you connect to an online service, you must enter your account information for the online service. If you do not have an account, create one by visiting the online service's website.
  • Only 1 video clip can be uploaded at a time.
  • Methods for deleting uploaded video clips vary by online service. Refer to the website of the online service.





Broadcasting your gameplay

You can broadcast (stream) your gameplay by using online services.

1. Press the SHARE button while playing a game, and select [Broadcast Gameplay].
2. Select an online service.
This screen is displayed only when there are multiple online services available. Also, if you have several channels, the screen for selecting a channel is displayed.
3. Prepare to broadcast.
You can enter a description, adjust settings for the PlayStationCamera, and perform other actions. If you link your accounts from online services such as Twitter, you can adjust settings so that a link to the broadcast is posted. You can also adjust the quality of video and audio by pressing the OPTIONS button, and then selecting [Broadcast Settings] > [Quality].
4. Select [Start Broadcasting].

  • The first time you connect to an online service, you must enter your account information for the online service. If you do not have an account, create one by visiting the online service's website.
  • During a broadcast, if you switch from the game screen to a different screen, such as the home screen or a settings screen, or if there is a scene that cannot be broadcast, a standby image will be shown to viewers.
  • Limits on the length of time you can broadcast and other details vary by online service. Refer to the website of the online service.
  • To unlink from online services, press the SHARE button, then press the OPTIONS button while the menu for the Share feature is displayed, and then select [Share Settings] > [Broadcast Settings] > [Manage Account Information].

Friends



Adding friends

When you send a Friend request to a player and it is accepted, that player becomes your Friend. When you become Friends, you can request that Friend's name, and you can see things like that Friend's PSNSM sign-in status and the game that Friend is playing.

Sending a Friend request

Search for a player to send a Friend request to, with one of the following methods.

Search for a player by online ID

You must ask the player in advance for their online ID.

1. Select (Find Player on PSN).
2. Enter the player's online ID.
3. From the search results, select the player to send a Friend request to.
4. Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Search among fellow players


1.Select (Players Met).
Fellow players appear, grouped by game or application.
2.Select the player you want to send a Friend request to.
3.Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.




Canceling a Friend request

1. Select (Friend Requests).
2. Highlight the player whose Friend request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Friend Request].




Accepting a Friend request

1. Select (Friend Requests).
2. Select the player whose Friend request you want to accept.
3. Select [View Friend Request] from the profile screen.

  • To reject a Friend request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Friend Request].
  • You can report inappropriate comments. On the screen for responding to the Friend request, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Submit Grief Report].





Requesting a Friend's name

If you send a name request and your Friend accepts it, the name registered to that person's Sony Entertainment Network account appears. Your name is also displayed to that person.

  • If a player's Facebook account information is linked, the player's Facebook profile picture also appears.
  • Name requests cannot be sent or received by players with sub accounts.
  • To prevent your name and profile picture from being seen in a game, remove the checkmark from (Settings) > [PSNSM] > [Privacy Settings] > [Name and Profile Picture]. Even if you remove this checkmark, your name and profile picture will be viewable outside of games by players who have accepted your name requests, and players whose name requests you have accepted.

Canceling a name request

1.Select (Name Requests).
2.Highlight the player whose name request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Name Request].

3. Select [View Name Request] from the profile screen.

  • To reject a name request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Name Request].





Viewing a friends profile

From your Friend's profile screen, you can view your Friend's latest activities and trophies your Friend has earned. You can also send things like messages or invitations to a (Party).

1. Select (Friends) from the function screen.
2. Select the Friend whose profile you want to view from your Friends list.

Select (Edit Profile). For items that you can check and change, see "Account Information".

  • You can set who can see your activities and trophies by selecting (Privacy Settings).

Select (Captures). You can sort captures by name or date by pressing the OPTIONS button.

  • You can delete, check information, and perform other actions for a screenshot or video clip by selecting one and pressing the OPTIONS button.
  • You can share a screenshot or video clip by selecting it and pressing the SHARE button.


Messages



About Messaging

You can use (Messages) to send and receive messages among Friends and your fellow players. You can select the players you exchange messages with.

Sending a Message

Create a new message, or select an existing message to reply to.
Creating a new message

1.Select (Messages) from the function screen.
2.Select [Create Message].
3.Select players to send the message to.

4.Enter a message, and then select [Send].

  • You can send a message to a maximum of 99 players.
  • You can also send and receive messages with players on PS3 systems and PS Vita systems.
  • You can enter up to 512 characters in a message.



Replying to a message

When you select a message, you can respond to continue the previous exchange.

  • Up to 200 messages are saved, each for 90 days.





Attaching A File

On the message entry screen, select (attach).

  • Depending on the device you are using, you might not be able to open some files you receive.
  • For voice input, use a headset or the microphones on a PlayStationCamera.

Setting the title

You can set the title of a message if there are at least 3 players on the same message thread. Enter a title by selecting the title input area.

Deleting a message

Select the message you want to delete from the message list screen, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete]. If there are players on the same message thread remaining, they can continue messaging each other.




Party




About Parties

You can use (Party) to voice chat and text chat with your Friends and fellow players. You can use (Party) while using a game or other application. You can also join a game if a Friend is playing it while chatting with you.

The party owner and players who can join

Owner

The person who creates a party becomes the owner.

  • When the owner leaves a party, one of the remaining players becomes the owner and the party can continue.
  • The owner can kick out players from the party. Select the player you want to kick out, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Kick Out].


Players who can join a party

When creating the party, the owner sets which players can join the party.

  • Friends of Friends
  • Friends of Friends of the owner can join the party freely.
  • Invited Players Only
  • Only players that the owner invites can join the party. A player who has joined the party can recommend another player to the owner.

  • You can participate in a party by using a PS4 system or PS Vita system.
  • If sub account users are restricted by parental controls, they can be invited to a party but cannot join it.
  • Up to 8 people can join a party.






Creating a Parties

You can create a party and invite your Friends. When you create a party, you become the owner.

1. Select (Party) from the function screen.
2. Select [Create Party].
3. Enter a name for the party, and then set which players can join.
4. Select [OK].
If you selected [Invited Players Only] in step 3, select the players you want to invite on the screen that is displayed, and then select [Send].
If you selected [Friends of Friends], wait for a player to join, or select (Invite) to invite players.





Joining a Party

Parties that you can currently join appear when you select (Party) from the function screen. Select the party you want to join.

  • You can view the players who have joined the party by pressing the OPTIONS button, and then selecting [View Players].





Leaving a party

Select (Leave).




Recommending someone as a participant

You can recommend a player by selecting (Suggest) from the party you have joined. If the player you recommend is invited by the party owner, that player receives a notification and becomes able to join the party.




Inviting someone who has been recommended

When you are a party owner and a player who has joined the party recommends someone, a message appears. Select (Invite), and then select [Invite Suggested Players].

This icon appears if you can join the game your Friend is playing. Highlight the player whose game you want to join, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Join Session] to view the details of the session before you join.

  • Do not use the following discs. If you do, the system may be damaged.
    - 8 cm discs
    - Non-circular discs, such as discs in the shape of a card, star, or heart
    - Discs that are cracked or deformed, or discs that have been repaired
  • A DualDisc features one side that conforms to the DVD standard, and another side with audio only. The audio-only side cannot be played on the PS4 system.
  • If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (Highbandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the PS4 system using an HDMI cable, video or audio cannot be output from the system.
  • For continuous playback of copyright-protected BDs, the encryption key for AACS (Advanced Access Content System) may need to be renewed. To renew the key, you must update the system software.
  • Some discs may not be playable due to scratches, dust, the quality of recording, or the characteristics of the recording device.
  • In rare instances, DVDs, BDs and other media may not operate properly when played on the PS4 system. This is primarily due to variations in the manufacturing process or encoding of the software.





Playing a video from Video Unlimited

Video Unlimited is a Sony Entertainment Network video distribution service. You can purchase and rent Video Unlimited videos from PlayStationStore.

1. Select (PlayStationStore) from the function screen.
2. Select the content you want to watch, and then select [Buy] or [Rent].
3. Select [Proceed to Checkout], and then select [Confirm Purchase].
You must add funds to your wallet to purchase or rent paid content. For details, see "Account Information".
4. Select [Watch].
To watch content later, select [Video Unlimited - My Videos] from the content area, and then select the content you want to play.

  • The buttons that appear and the required steps vary depending on the type of content.

Adding

Press the OPTIONS button when viewing the page you want to bookmark, and then select [Add Bookmark].

  • You can add up to 100 bookmarks.

Opening

1.Press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Bookmarks].
2.Select the bookmark you want to open.

Editing

1.Press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Bookmarks].
2.Select the bookmark you want to edit, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Edit].
You can change the website name and URL.

Deleting

1. Press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Bookmarks].
2. Press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete].
3. Set a checkmark for the bookmarks you want to delete, and then select [Delete].




History

Web pages that are visited are automatically saved in the browsing history. You can visit a web page without entering the address by selecting it from the browsing history list.

1. Press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Browsing History].
2. Select the page in browsing history you want to open.

At most, the latest 100 pages are saved.
You can delete pages by pressing the OPTIONS button on the browsing history list screen, and then selecting [Clear Browsing History].




Browser Settings

You can adjust whether to allow cookies. You can also delete them. When a web page is displayed, press the OPTIONS button and then select [Settings].
