Synopsis
Super Smash Bros. Melee, known in Japan as Dairant Smash Brothers DX (DX?, lit. "Great Melee Smash Brothers Deluxe"), often abbreviated as SSBM or simply as Melee, is a crossover fighting game released for the Nintendo GameCube shortly after its launch in 2001 (2002 in the PAL region). It is the successor to the 1999 Nintendo 64 game Super Smash Bros., and the predecessor to the 2008 Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. HAL Laboratory developed the game, with Masahiro Sakurai as head of production.

Gameplay
Super Smash Bros: Melee is possibly one of the most greatest, funnest, and most addicting games ever played. Im sorry but if you have never played this game or heard of it you dont know what your missing out on. The main gameplay of this game is the multiplayer mode, there is a single player but it isnt as exciting as the multiplayer. In single player you go through all sorts of characters or CPUs and you start fighting them on the side scrolling maps. It also features a Classic Mode where the player has to battle through all types of players to get to the boss. if you get to the boss you have to defeat it and you win. There is also a little mini game with it called "Home-Run Contest." In this little mini game you the player has to hit a dummy as far as you can with whatever character you chose. Which leads me to another thing, some characters are stronger than other like way stronger. Like a little comparison here, Donkey Kong is going to be way stronger than Peach or Daisy would be. There is another game mode called "Target Test." In target test the player is set out to destroy ten targets in the least amount of time possible. There is one more and final mode called "All-Star." In all-star it is more of a challenge game type, the player has to defeat all the characters. Well that seems easy your thinking, well here is the catch; you only get three health supplements to kill them all. That also leads me to another thing, health. There is a little bubble at the bottom that shows a percent on how hurt you are or how much health you have. Typically it is harder to kill someone with 1% then 300%. The higher the number the easier to kill its simple.

In multiplayer it goes up to 4 players all on one screen. The screen doesnt split into 4 squares it is just one whole screen. If you dont have 4 players and dont have any brothers or sisters, you can put in CPUs to play. You can change there difficulty and such to make it more of a challenge or see something. During playing multiplayer items will just spawn out of thin air. Some of these items are like a Pokeball, baseball bat, food and much more. These items can vary to take damage from another player or you too, or get items that restore your health all the way or just some what. There are multiple modes to choose from in this game but the most common are "Time Mode" and "Shock Mode." In time mode the player battles and the person with the most kills and least deaths win the game. In shock mode the players battle till one player or team with lives remaining win the game. The other mode is "Coin Mode", in coin mode the player that is the most rich wins the game. Harder hits makes more coins fall out of the player, if you fall off the stage then coins get lost.

Trophies are another thing in Super Smash Bros: Melee. What are trophies your asking, well trophies are little rewards of Nintendo characters that can be collected throughout the whole game. These trophies include action figures of playable characters, accessories, and items associated with them as well as series and characters not otherwise playable in the game.

Graphics
Ok hands down but the Super Smash Bros: Melee has the best graphics of 2001 kind of games. The game has characters that are 3D characters, so if they turn one way and look the other it will have a different look to them. Each character is directly from one of the Nintendo series or franchise. There is 25 characters to actually choose from and each are as detailed as they are in there own series. The game also has different maps in the game. They all move and are interactive maps. Like some of the parts of the platforms might fall or go into the water, that way so if your having trouble with a player it might help you a little bit and give you an advantage. I have also mentioned that weapons appear in the map randomly. Well when they appear they have a little effect like a bubble popped and they spawned. One of the weapons that spawn is a poke ball, when you throw the poke ball at the ground it will have the little light come out then the pokemon pops out, it is just like the series. Each map as a little background too, one of the background is clouds and they look as they would in real life. Each character also has a little shading effect to it so it looks like a shadow is on them. The games graphics is so detailed and are amazing.

Controls
Now the controls of this game are absolutely great but I might have some trouble with explaining it since I havent played the game in so long. But any way the controls are simple but take a little to get used to. Of course the joystick is to move but thats always for every game. A is the standard attacks, if you dont know what I mean by standard attacks I mean like punch and kick. B is the special attacks, if you press like A twice then B your character might do a little special attack and do more damage to the player. X or Y is to jump, nothing to really explain here although it is great that there is two controls so you can get a good feel of one. Z is to grab them and throw them around every where it doesnt really do much. The controls are just like that all around, they are simple and easy to control your character. Other moves that I havent mentioned are just useless and to have fun with your player. Overall the controls of this game are fantastic and need no changes to them what so ever.
