Genre: Platformer

Synopsis
BattleBlock Theater[1] is a platform game developed by The Behemoth and published by Microsoft Studios for Xbox 360. It is the third title from The Behemoth following Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. The game was released on Xbox Live Arcade on April 3, 2013.

Gameplay
In Battleblock Theater the player is playing as a character that is a prisoner. The game has many game types to choose from but the main ones are; Adventure and Story. In both of these types you will be able to collect new parts for your character. Parts that can be collected are heads, bodies, and weapons or guns. If you have yarn you can bribe cats for parts or money. If you are playing online you can progress through heads by trading your friend for another one, if all heads are collected the player will get an achievement. Each of these will help you progress through levels and each level requires one weapon that will help you collect stars and yarn. The yarn and stars will be determined on how well you play each level, if you collect all stars and the yarn you will get A++ etc. The game consists of strategies, killing enemies, and collection of things. I really enjoyed playing through the levels and seeing a wide variety of different things to kill you and how big of a challenge it was.

Soul: In this game mode you steal an enemies soul, capture it and hold it longer for more points.
Muckle: Beat and kill the enemies to receive points for your team.
Challenge: Score the best given time on a specific level.
King of the Hill: Stand on crown blocks to receive points.
Color the World: Color more blocks than the other team
Grab the Gold: Grab gold and deposit it to score points for your team.
Ball Game: Get ball in the Basket
Horse: Ride enemy teams horses and stay on it longer to score more points.

Plot
The plot of this game is interesting and really fun to see what happens next. Almost all cut scenes are in puppet form which is not in your regular games. The game begins when the narrator is telling hundreds of stories about the S.S Friendship, as well as Hatty Hattington, who is known as "best friend to one and to all". After a huge storm hits the S.S. Friendship, the boat becomes shipwrecked, on a mysterious island that no one knows about. Upon waking after the wreck the Player seeks shelter in a theater. Soon the player discover technologically advanced, high evolved cats restraining Hatty, as he is being fit into a glowing top hat. The hat begins to change Hatty, and after that Hatty orders the cats to attack the players presence. The plot is fun and couldn't get better in my opinion at all. Love the part with cats being trained and trying to find you. Overall very interesting and very cliff hangery.

Graphics
Battleblock theaters graphics are really good for a 2D game. It is similar to Mario games where you are running in a straight line dodging, killing things and more. Except this game is not as penalized as mario is. This graphics run really smooth on this game and don't look terrible at all. There explosions, water, and walking through walls is really detailed for this game. They have funny little animations when standing still, and dying, like killing yourself will lead to your character popping and making a farting noise. The animations of moving blocks, enemies is fantastic and smoothly laid out. They have definitely improved since the little reveal trailer of this game made back in 2009 called Game 3. Overall graphics are good very little improvements need to be made here and there.

Controls
Ok the controls in this game are probably the simplest controls and easy to learn in like a minute. There are only three controls, Thats it! The game only consists of running, jumping, and punching/kicking. Only three buttons in this game that you need to press really thats it. It is very similar to Mario as i have said before, just in a different style. Overall controls are easy and simple, a five year old could probably learn them with a snap of your fingers.

Rating
Synopsis 7/10
Plot 9/10
Gameplay 9/10
Graphics 8/10
