Xbox One customers with faulty disc drives will receive free digital game


Microsoft has announced it will provide free digital titles to those experiencing problems with their Xbox One disc drives.

The offer will allow users unable to play disc-based games to use their faulty console while they wait for a replacement, according to customer correspondence obtained by Polygon.

The games offered as part of the initiative include Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome and Zoo Tycoon.

"While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game," the company wrote.

"We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."

Shortly after the Xbox One's launch on November 22 several launch day owners reported problems with the console's disc drive. Microsoft directed affected users to contact Xbox phone support.

Xbox One sold more than a million units worldwide within 24 hours of its launch.

According to unnamed sources speaking to trade publication MCV, the Xbox One has almost managed to eclipse the Wii U's UK lifetime sales in its first week.
